Reply:my stick is a hobart 235i would like to learn to weld ALim trying to get into smaller more precise parts and repairs
Reply:I don't think your hobart 235 is set up for tig on aluminum. For aluminum you need a high frequency unit on a AC/DC welder. Here is a link to a hobart machine that is similar to your's that is set up for tig.http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...6124_200026124The machine you have can run tig on steel/stainless steel with a tig rig/bottle gauge. But it would not have a foot pedal or remote control.Last edited by Cofe; 10-05-2009 at 10:51 PM.6"XX P5P8 6G
Reply:Least expensive way to get into an ac/dc tig is look for a used older transformer machine, if you have enough power to run it with. An old Idealarc or Dialarc will work fine, or an Econotig.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:I agree with finding a used transformer machine. Not many good inverters for sale yet, but if you find a deal, snag it quick! Look for a lincoln squarewave machine, precision tig 185 or better yet 225, these machines are going from $1000-$1500 on craigslist right now. The precision tigs are nice machines for learning to do aluminum and they are good tough machines in general.Miller Dynasty 300dxSpeedglas 9002XMiller Spectrum 375 XtremeLincoln PowerMig 255xtLincoln PowerMig 140cMilwuakee Portaband
