Can anyone tell me if there is any type of product that will clean the black mark left after burn through on 316 stainless steel. Sometimes our welders get a burn through when welding 316 stainless steel. We are looking for something that will clean the black mark from the burn through? Help !!!
Reply:I'm not sure exactly what your mean, but you can look into the various passivation solutions and see if any of them will help.
Reply:Hello Chris, I believe DeRustIt makes some chemicals that will do a decent job of returning your stainless to a "clean" condition. Best regards, Allanaevald
Reply:try acetone works on most everything

Reply:Burn through? A grinder. That isnt soot or discoloration of the material thats steel that has been overheated, exposed to atmosphere and burnt. You can either backpurge, apply solar flux (or similar) or tell your welders not to burn through. If your talking about discoloration on the backside of the weld that hasnt been burnt, you can clean it with mechanical methods (wirebrush, sctchbrite, sander) or there are a variety of chemicals that will clean it. Acetone is not one of them.Have we all gone mad? |
