Reply:You need to be aware that DIY chroming can be a messy, hazaardous process. If you are doing it for commercial gain (parts you are going to sell, parts for other people, etc), there are regulations out the heiney. The chemicals are ALL hazardous, and must be disposed of as haz waste. Read ALL of the MSDS sheets and be sure you know where the hazmat receiving site is or contact an comercial hazmat company for your area before you start-- you don't want to get stuck with chemical residues you can't get rid of.I'v done electroplate on a small scale (copper and nickel mostly, principally for making embossing dies and when I was doing semiconductor fabrication) and it can be frustrating to get the technique down, but very rewarding when you get there. Chrome is one of the tougher ones to do well, both due to the chemical nature (you generally need an intermediate layer between steel and chrome) and to to the appearance issues (you want it to look good, right?)Chemical (non-electro) can involve even more hazardous materials.
