Hey guys, I was wondering which metal pays more for the welder? aluminum, cast iron, stainless steel, mild, ect.
Reply:The answer probably has more to do with process and job than material.I've seen kids at the tech school still learning mig get a job useing mig on alum with a spoolgun. Someone else sets the machine and it just stays that way for the whole job as they weld flat seams on 1/8" truck floors. On the other hand someone doing aircraft grade tig work would make WAY more money than those kids.Same applies to any metal. The higher the quality and the more precise the process, the more money. Add in things like hazards, site vs shop and that gets even more complicated. On average almost anyone can weld steel at the basic level. Some can weld alum and stainless at a higher level than basic mig. Get into exotic metals, titanium, monel, copper etc. and the number of qualified welders decreases. Supply and demand, fewer guys that can do the job, the more they can make..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan |
