Well, it's boring, I know....but at least it's functional....and some old blades have found a new purpose...LOL. We'll see how it holds up pulling my spreader, dethatcher, and aerators. I bounced my 210 lb body repeatedly up and down on it (plus chucked it up in my vise and whacked away at it with a BIG hammer). No bending or cracking....but it did have a nice chime-like 'ring to' it. If I were to do it again, I would opt to use a bit milder steel stock. I used a Lincoln Pro-Mig 135 and to get deep penetration I had to set the sucker up to 'D'......plus those hard blades are hell on drill bits. I see a Plasma cutter in my future.....Last edited by SLS; 03-14-2005 at 03:07 AM.
Reply:Should be stiff as heck pound for pound. Should do what you want it to.
Reply:Well, I've used it for a couple of days now and it doesn't appear to be going anywhere...very sturdy...LOL.Next up:A front-mount Dethatcher! 2" x 1/8" steel. I already have a base w/tines from the tow-behind (48")...so I'll build a 60" from scratch after I finish tweaking the design and fabrication of the mounts and caster assemblies. It will be 'hinged' with pins so that I can raise it vertical for transport....but will have to work out the actual 'lift arm/locking' assembly as I get further along. Here's the 'plan' so far:I already started with the actual fabrication and mock-up tonight....and will post some pics as it get a little further along..............Last edited by SLS; 03-18-2005 at 04:02 AM. |
