pipe welding advice

I am in welding school and should be threw in May.  I have 4 years mig and tig experience.  What steps should i take to get a pipe welding job?  What pay can i expect?  I will travel anywhere!!!!!!!!!Thanks,Mike
Reply:All I can tell you is,  sometimes I had to lie to get a pipe welding test.   Back in my day Daniels, and Brown and Root were the two I worked for.  One job I failed the pipe test, so they put me to work structural welding, same pay as the pipe guys.Another job I failed the tube welding test, but passed the pipe test. I had just got out of Tulsa pipe welding school, and of course everybody wants to know how much experience you have.  Well didn't take me long to start stretching the truth to get a test.If you have your own rig, things around here should start rolling after the first of the year.  Dallas area is going pretty good as well with all the LPG drilling and pipelines.Last edited by tortis; 11-25-2009 at 05:07 PM.
