hay guys im new to this form and new to welding. I am learning tig I bought a miller syancrowave 300 tig and stick welder for $1300.00 with coolermy shop looks like a joke right now but I only had this welder for 3 weeks now and have been trying tig for one week. after learning stick.in the next few weeks I am building a nice 3/4 inch thick welding table and I am also buying a nice rollaway tool box for all my nice tools that are sitting in bins and I cant find anything so it's time for me to get organized.I attached some picture to show you my setup so you can see in a few weeks where I came from.please also let me know what you think about my root pass.also if someone can give me some advice on how I can avoid burning through the steel and still make a puddlethanks here are this pictures. Reply:Take your time with the shop.  Dont get in a big hurry.  Just get stuff as you need it.  That's a heck of a welder to start off with, though.  Not a bad price either.  From what I can, see the pass looks pretty good.  The travel and heat looks right after the start.  Start looks kind hot, though. Is this a root pass?  Looks like a regular single pass fillet.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:Howdy! as an idea, what are your provisions for fumes and toxins?  Some sort of venting, even a small fart fan would be good for starts.  Is that a square D QO load center I see? Looks like a really nice service you have there.  Huge panel.  No doubt a 40/40 fullsize.  It's fantastic that your welder is positioned so close to the service.  Voltage drop? what voltage drop!  Also, fire extinguisher.  I didn't look too close, but didn't think I saw one.  5 gallon bucket of water, and a second exit something else to keep in mind.   Safety first... next week get the toolbox for the toys     I gotta say, for cutting metal, don't do what I did.  I got a harbor junk chop saw for 50$.  it worked ok for flat bar on end, and thats it.  Bad wobble too.  Got frustrated, asked the guys at the competing (and slightly more expensive) local import tool store (tool town)  for their opinions.  They sold me on a 4X6 metal cutting bandsaw for 229$.  Made is taiwan, but if you do some searches, alot of people have good things to say about them.  Much better then crappy chop saws.  Maybee the better chop saws are worth it, but I can't believe what this bandsaw is going through.  I put a 4X5 tube that is 1/4" thick in their for about 15 minutes at a 45 deg angle, and it self cuts, and shuts itself off too.  It was on the slowest speed. I haven't bothered to try the other speeds yet. Reply:hi thanks guysthe exit to my place is a 2 car garage it's wide open when I am in there.and yes a fire extinguisher is a good idea. I will pick up a small one. right now i have a 50ft water hose.my brother is an electrician and when I added the 2 car garage he put in a whole new 200 amp service in the house free of charge :-)thanks
Reply:I used to have a work bench like that! I ended up working on a demo job where they were chucking two soild core 7ft oak meeting room doors. Seeing as how all the woodwork in my house is dark, I screwed and glude the doors together, cut off 8 inches of length, and bolted them in as my work bench. They are absolutely rock solid! I was going to use 2x4s bolted together oriented up and down, but now I have a 4" thick top instead of 3.5. I love pounding on stuff and the table stays still.
Reply:Your Gonna need a Ventilation system, Smoke from Stick welding will fill up your house/shop very fast.
