Does anyone have any of these plans around? (gas) or made one? or know were i can download them?
Reply:I have built several over the years most were made to mount onto a tractor and run from the remote hydraulics. I have done a few with 110 volt hydraulic units, and one last year with the 12 volt pump.  I usually build them on a piece of 8 inch "I" beam with a 1 inch splitting blade.  Usually use a 6 to 8 inch cylinder also.  Give me a couple days to scan some pics and I will try to post them.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:To L&L: I have a used cylinder,(piston) it is about 2" rod size, 3 1/2" bore, 36-38" stroke, 1/2" iron pipe thread connections, uses 1" pins to mount at both ends. It's first life was a  trash compactor cylinder, so it will certainly do log splitter duty.I also have  some used valves for sale, not the de-tent type preferred for a splitter,  but they will work fine. It can be had for $100. cash. I am 4 miles from exit 19 on 495, North of you. As a bonus you could bring your camera, and note pad, and get some ideas from the log splitter I bought. I was going to build my own when I found this "homemade" one. It is very intense, it uses a twin cylinder Wisconsin, with a massive fork lift cylinder, 48"+ stoke.Just my  opinion, not from a book, just from the road.Howes Welding Inc.www.howesweldinginc.com
