Hey guys i just had to share this photo shes a beauty this 454 is now in my corvette i got an awsome deal on it from my step dad . 4 bolt main bored 60 over,steel crank ,427 high compression heads which i had to settle for becuase i bought this 2005 avalanche.The heads that were going on it were aluminum h/p heads but my step dad wouldnt give them to me unless i payed cash upfront this is my third engine he's rebuilt for me so he knows about my heavy foot problem  anyways the high rise manifold is unique as the carb sits about a quarter of a turn off from center, so i had to get a carb spacer to make my dual fuel line on the 780 double pumper  clear the valve covers, oh yah i forgot the rocker rollers and 7/16 push rods sswweeeettt ! Hopefully the screamin deamon will be up by spring and i also hope the gas goes down a bit im expecting to see my gas guage go down just as fast as i step on the pedal WELDERS GET BETTER PENETRATION

Reply:I guess from documentation on similar vettes with same drive trian about 12.5 to 13 seconds 1/4 time pushing anywhere from 480 to 525 foot pounds at the back tires.its a 1980 vette i just finished redoing the rear end a couple months ago to handle the torque heavy duty offset trialing arms,1350 u/v joints ,adjustable strut rods,composite spring,stianless o ring brake calipars and as i love shiny things i added in front of the diff mostly for looks but if i should twist off a half shaft it wont damage my battery compartement as bad check it out!    it took me all winter as my parts came in i sand blasted the frame and t arm pockets i used a deadly rust preventive piant called por 15 you can literally nail this stuff with a hammer and it wont chip off and stops rust dead in its tracks!Last edited by KELLY; 09-22-2005 at 09:05 PM.WELDERS GET BETTER PENETRATION
Reply:That rear-end looks really good . With that much torque, I would thing you could get better times that mid 12s. Hows the top end with your motor? Obviously you have tons of low end with those torque numbers. In my little 4cyl I run low 12s, 12.2  to be exact. I know I dont make even 400hp. Anyways, good luck. Looks really good.-Dallas J
Reply:I built it for mostly highway use im running 3.08 gears my calculations may be off a bit on time but the foot pounds are deffinitly accurate.THANKS MUCHLY for your kind words, it sure was not an easy build. WELDERS GET BETTER PENETRATION
Reply:Your rice mobile ain't nearly as fat as a C3 either. I'm sure that thing is 3600+ if it's an ounce.  Oh the dark dark days for GM when their performance leader was called a Pontiac Sunbird....Good luck with your new engine, it sounds sweet. Reply:My rice-mobile weighs about 3100lbs. Not light, but definately not as heavy as an older vette.-Dallas J

Reply:Its not really a go-fast car as much as it is an auto-x car. Ive been toying with the idea of swapping to a miata as that is pretty much a definative auto-x car. I have love for all cars, especially when done right. Kelly's car is pretty much that. Attention to details, and the engineering aspects are the things I love to see when people build cars. Wether it be a ricer or an exotic. -Dallas J
Reply:Why a big block in an auto X car?  Isn't handling a premium?The intake looks like an older Edelbrock Torker. Good intake. IMHO, the carb isn't big enough for your application unless you are running an automatic.Have fun with it....
