I've got a project to build an 8' x 24' gate frame. I don't have a good shop or table to build it on. Last time I used my concrete patio which is big enough.I'd rather not do that this time. I'm thinking of trying several stands to hold the 1 1/2 sq tubing while I square it up and weld but without a good welding table surface to use Im a little hesitant to try that.My plans are to build a shop with everything thing I need but I need to build the gate now.any suggestions?
Reply:For something that big, i'd say the ground.
Reply:Ayuh,..............I've built Lots of Stuff on Reasonably Flat Driveways,.................I Still Do,......... It's Easier than clearing enough of the Shop floor to use It...................
Reply:with that large a project I'd have to empty my 24' x 24' garage concrete driveways are flat enough ... lay a piece of plate down and use clamps to make your joints on the plate... wood blocks, shims, etc to keep everything level, even and plumb.even if you could build a bench to do this work... most of it would be hangin in the air anyway..... we've built 20' gates in the driveway with good results...except for having to turn it so many times cause the welder leads (wire) were too short ... just do it !!!John
Reply:alright well that kinda makes me feel a little better. I'm figuring this stuff out as I go. That's my second 8'x24' gate that I've built on my patio. Both turned out fine. |
