Hi Everyone,I have been doing some research on welding AL cast recently and was hoping that someone could recommend a good text, journal, or similar. I have done simple repairs to cast AL before, but the protect I have in mind is the modification of a motorcycle swingarm. Being the structural significance of the modification I would like to do some reading on the matter. All types of info would be appreciated, basic methods would be a start, but I would also like some engineering info so that I can perform a stress analysis. Thanks!Jim
Reply:Hey Jim,I have a set of excellent aluminum books by Alcoa. I would recommend: "Welding Alcoa Aluminum" & "Alcoa Structural Handbook" for starters. I have seen these on Amazon.com. Also, IMO, here's a site that's the best for information on most types of welding & associated parameters: http://www.weldreality.com/aluminum-welding-2.htm.DennyComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:Thanks, just bought the books off ebay.Great site too.I suppose the best course of action before I pour a lot of time into this project is to ID the exact metal type. I will have to see if I can borrow work's arc spark. Thanks!JIm |
