i have been thinking of buying a new mig welder.  I think i am leaning toward a mm212, but the 180 only welds 1/16" less.  is the 212 worth twice as much money for only 1/16"?  I know the duty cycle is better for the 212, but school me on which i should get.  I will very seldom weld any thing over 3/8" thick, but sometimes i may need to go a little thicker.  The hobart 187 or the next biggest doesnt look bad either, but the auto set feature of the miller seems great.  thanks in advance, you guys are great.  jasonLast edited by cowhead5065; 12-21-2009 at 10:31 PM.

Reply:The 212 is alot more machine than the 180.  If you need portability, the 180 or 211 are good choices.  If it will live in the shop, the 212 and 252 are good choices.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
