Reply:thats a big iron worker
Reply:So basically it's an all in one machine??
Reply:Hello pyroracing85, many job shops will have ironworkers to help with preparing parts for building and assembling various weldments and fabricated parts. The particular one that you pulled up on Ebay is a hydraulic iron worker which has 2 operator stations, I'm not sure if they are independant of one or another or not, if they are, then the machine can perform 2 seperate operations simultaneously thus providing increased production capabilities for a shop. They can usually be outfitted with various punch/die combinations to provide quick and accurate holes in various materials, typically round holes, hexagonal holes, slots and other hole variations can be punched with these machines as many custom die/punch combinations can also be used in them. They also incorporate angle shearing capabilities, channel shearing capabilities, round and square stock shearing capacity, bar stock cutting and possibily tube and pipe notching with add-on adaptive die/punch combinations. In other words they are generally capable of diversifying a shops metal processing abilities. Many of these machine's capabilities allow shops to speed up their production immensely. When you compare the time to drill holes to those that are punched, there is no comparison. Similarly, sawing vs. shearing, there is no comparison there either for optimizing production. The key with these machines is knowing when to utilize one of them vs. using other types of technologies. Just a short rundown and as the other poster had stated, reading further into the Ebay add you would likely get an idea of this machines capabilities. A bit for your consideration. Reply:OK, that video had me drooling..........I am tired of Ketchup, I want the Gravy...
Reply:That frickin thing is huge.
Reply:Would be awesome. Ill take two, oh shoot three there cheap. OK. Be awesome if they would put a small break on there for the notcher, build little boxs, shields and the such. Shoot thats what welders are for.
Reply:call me crazy but I can do all of that with a nice band saw and a drill press.??
Reply:Cannot match the speed of production with the saw or drill, It is that fast. However there is a price, This equipment as you already know is expensive. Also if not properly ajusted and some of the import and lower end units have a tendency to distort the metal at the cut ends, or leave burrs. Reply:we use these at my work for cutting bar stock... it does it more or less as fast as you can feed the bar in.It will not cut anything near what that machine in the video did (IE, that huge plate!).But it works good on the bar stock we do.It does leave burrs on them, but thats not that big of a deal since an abrasive saw will do that as well.
Reply:I have 2 drill presses- and no way would I want to drill 100 holes, 3/4" diameter, in 1/2" plate, instead of punching em.so yeah- if you have ONE hole to drill, a drill press is fine- although in thick plate, you need a big, heavy, expensive, slow drill press, and you usually need to step drill, working your way up- no cheapo chinese drill press will drill 1" holes in half inch plate with a 1" twist drill very well. But as soon as you have 100 holes, a day, to put in 1/2" or 3/4" plate, that ironworker starts to look very good indeed.or if you need 300 pieces of 3/4" square, all 18" long. take a week with a bandsaw. an hour on the Geka.If you are making money on paying jobs, good tools pay for themselves quickly. If you are a hobby type, and you have lots of time and no money, then a $10,000 ironworker is probably not in your future.but once you have used one, you will understand...
Reply:How does one do square holes with a drill press? I need some of those square drill bits! Seriously it's all about time and money, especially with repetitive operations. Once you've worked with a good iron worker you'll understand. Stock cut almost as fast as you can feed it into the machine, holes cleanly punched in heavy plate faster and cleaner than you can drill it, plate sheared, tube notched,... the list goes on and on..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:WOW thanks guys. I guess I am catching on.Now I want one!! I could of used it for the miter cuts on the angle.
Reply:One million years ago I needed to make fifty latches for my box stalls on a new barn I built.  A friend of mine stopped by and watched me cut, drill, bend, etc, etc, on the first latch. When we got done he told me to come by his office the next day.  His business was buying and selling all the machines used in a machine shop.  Big presses, breaks, you name it he had them sitting there.  Long story short he had one of his workers pull out this strange looking machine.  (Ironworker)  Set it up and bam in less than one hour I had all the pieces cut, bent and punched for my fifty latches.  All I had to do was weld them up.  That began my love affair with Ironworkers.  What really impressed me was the shear(big shear).  They took a full sheet of 1/4 inch plate and in just a couple of minutes I had all the rectangular pieces cut for the base of the latches.  I had never seen any of these machines before. I was standing there with my jaw dropped down.
Reply:Holy freakin sexy that thing is a beast.
Reply:Once you have an ironworker you never go back.    BTW the Geka Ironworker is the cadillac of Ironworkers.   I am hopefully going to be picking one a very lightly used one here in the next couple of months if this job I won will ever start. Once you have an ironworker, it will be amazed how you ever got along with out one before.  You will get to a point, that you will find yourself using your ironworker for every job you do, no matter how small.Lincoln 300 Vantage 2008300 Commander 1999SA250 1999SA200 1968Miller Syncrowave 200XMT350MPA/S-52E/xr-15Xtreme 12vs Millermatic 251 w/30A  Millermatic 251 Dialarc 250 Hypertherm 1250 GEKA & Bantom Ironwokers
