18'x 20' metal on a concrete slab. As you can see Its got a way to go. I'm needing ideas on lighting ,ventilation for mig welding and other basic set up ideas. What I really want to do is copy some the good stuff some of you guys have. How do I access some of those pictures on this site? Thanks! Attached Images
Reply:What I'd like to know is... How did you trigger the camera, while you were hiding in your shop behind the overhead door?Suggest talking to a furnace contractor about picking up a squirrel cage blower for free when he does an R&R. These are great for exhausting fumes. Just use your imagination for installation after looking to see where other guys have put 'em in their shops.

Reply:Hey, Steve,Another trick I've used is to mount a small blower from a clothes dryer somewhere in the rafters. Then, using 4" flexible dryer vent, I rigged intake and exhaust vents. I suspended a garbage can lid, adapted so I could attach it to the intake vent, by a rope, pulleys, and a counter weight. By doing this I could just reach up and pull the lid down to be right above the area where I was making sparks. I cut a hole in the gable end of my garage to exhaust fumes, running another 4" vent pipe between the blower and a dryer vent cap, mounted outside. This exhaust blower, also, functions to exhaust paint fumes from my spray paint booth that I made out of large cardboard refrigerator box. I turn the blower on and off, via a pull cord switch, mounted on a rafter. Oh, almost forgot... I, also, have the paint booth hanging from a pulley, suspended in the rafters. If you saw my garage, you would understand.Last edited by Weldordie; 04-12-2006 at 11:56 PM. |
