I was welding up my sliders today, made of 1.75'' hrew round tube.  When I started welding on top of the tube the puddle was running great, but when I got down to the bottom it started spittin, and sputtering, and finally the wire would weld itself to the gun. What gives.  Do I need to turn up the wire speed for downhill? Thanks, Robert.here is a pic.
Reply:I would recommend that you verify your gun to work angle before changing your machine setting. I am guilty of not keeping the angle correct which causes me to change my stick out and prevents the arc from doing its job properly. It is quite easy to change you gun to work angle on pipe before you realize what you have done.
Reply:What WeldingLifer said.  Also, in going around the pipe, the gun whip sometimes gets twisted around, which can mess with the wire feeding.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:weldinglifer, and DesertRider33 thanks for your help.  I will putting together another set tomorrow, and will keep an eye on the whip and the gun angel. Thanks again.
Reply:Run it 'dry' first (no welding, just move the torch) to get a comfortable position and plan how you'll move the torch around the joint.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Have to second the dry run, my instructor does it allot with tig because its something that unless you do tig daily you'll loose it and months pass before he gets back to it so he does dry runs on tig allot and on mig almost as much.  I've gotten into the habit since I'm learning new welding types and it does help because it shows you where the shoulder or elbow drift could occur and will point out any potential snag points on the work piece or table that could catch your clothing causing a drop of your arm and angle.
Reply:DR33, and Big65 thanks for reminding me of the basics.   I'll post some pics of todays welds. Thanks, and have a great day.
