Hey folks, well yep Im an idiot and forgot about my torch cooler. I never had them frozen before, but hey it hardly ever gets this cold in TN or atleast Nash. I just check them and they are frozen solid. BTW 2% antifreeze didnt work also its all distilled, not that it matters. So here go the questions. Whats the damage you think? Should I try and thaw or leave it the F alone before I create damage. ..? And I dont want to hear any " You should have spent the money and bought the real stuff " either.. weld it like you own it

Reply:i suppose you should just wait til the ice thaws and just turn on the cooler see if anything is leaking (cross your fingers). just dont turn on the welder.just to make your day worse, i wore shorts and t-shirt today, 76F today in beautiful so cal :P
Reply:Don't power it up yet, remember that the pump is frozen too.Good Luck
Reply:Thanks for the replies already. I dont plan on turning it on. So I guess I should turn the heat on in the shop and let nature take its course softly?I wonder if the fittings are ruined or not and the procon pump. Gosh I cant believe I let this one sneek up on me....boy!!! weld it like you own it
Reply:Cover it up with -something that won't burn- and pack an electric heater or lamp in there, it'll thaw in no time.
Reply:I salvaged two TIG chillers which had frozen. Apparently these units only had a small amount of residual water in them, so the damage for both was in one of the lower copper "U" bends that had spit open. This was simple to fix by closing the gap and applying solder.Hopefully your system is not damaged. Let it thaw, fire it up and any leaks will be obvious.I heard the unusual cold may be due to global warming!
Reply:Thanks guys. The cap was froze and thats when I freaked. I put it all inside and the hybrid H2o seems to be ok. The lines are STIFF ! but I dont think there is any damage, maybe just the cold plastic. I'll keep an eye on them as I just bought a 3/32 gas lense today...lolThanks 7A789, I may take you up on that. weld it like you own it
Reply:To really make a house feel like a home, there's just nothing like a TIG cooler in the kitchen. Except maybe an Electra-Glide in the parlor.

Most were OK.Chances are, let it thaw out inside & you'll probably be OK.Out of many pumps I have seen, I only replaced a few. You can get one on ebay new for less than $50 if you keep an eye open.Don't sweat it, no biggie. Let it thaw. Just put the Miller coolant in it STRAIGHT next time.Never had an issue with it using Miller's stuff.BTW: I have a crapload of water cooled torch stuff lying around if you need it. Just PM me & we can talk. I might even have a good used pump too.......I was the guy that turned you on to the cooler to begin with. Trust me on this......Steve.
