ive been reading up one diffrent gase to run on my mig. now on my 220 mig i run 75/25 but on this 110 i have i would like to run 100% argon.(father inlaw gave me a free bottle) now i know that it will have low penitration. but this 110 will only see sheet metal(car bodys) and exhast pipe. so will the penitration still be to low for . what i want to use it for. or should i just get somemore 75/25.
Reply:If you are doing just body work, I would recommend you get 75/25 unless you can get 90Ar/10CO2 for the same price.

Reply:Hey 92f150,I do restorations on 4-6 classic cars/yr & I use C25(75/25) religiously. That mix allows for a better "wetting" of the puddle to reduce burnthru & smoothen the bead. I also use a 110V MIG, a Miller 130, for all the thin sheetmetal panels I do & use a backing on seams that definitely makes a difference controlling your heat & reducing/eliminating burnthru. I use several lengths of aluminum 1.5" X 1/8"alum. angle for backing, although you can use a flattened piece of copper tube or copper flat stock.DennyComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:thanks guys thats what i needed to know
Reply:I tried 100% argon once & really couldn't do anything with it using solid wire. I pretty much think some CO2 is needed in the mix & the 75/25 is the really common mix for general MIG welding with solid wires. Many of the dual shield flux core wires do very well on 100% CO2 or MIx but don't like 100% argon either.IF IT WORKS, DON'T FIX IT2 Lincoln CV-300 / LN-7 GMALinde-VI 253,400 & 450 w/MIG35 feedersCNC Table with Oxweld O/A & Hypertherm 1250G3Lincoln Ranger GXT 250Hobart-MicroWire 300ESAB Heliarc 161ESAB-Mobilemaster 2 CC/CV Feeders& more |
