Old School Kart

I built an old school type kart using 1"x.095" mild steel round tube.  I copied the design of the old Azusa when building the frame, but made it wider and longer.  I bought some of the weldments from various online sources, and fabbed some myself.  I bolted a Techumseh 6.5 hp motor onto it, and it runs like a champ.Link: http://www.junkyardturbos.com/forum/...topic.php?t=36I removed the governor, replaced the valve springs with stiffer ones and installed 1.3 ratio rockers on it.  I have a 12/54 sprocket ratio, so it really flies.  My neighbor clocked me just north of 45 mph on it.I used my Weld Pak 100 with .035 flux cored wire for all the welding.DIY turbo Z28http://JunkyardTurbos.com
Reply:good job!looks good and fast..(check your welds once in awhile..just like on a race car)brings back bad memories..i was almost killed in one.. so i stay away.. ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:If that young girl with the long hair is going to be driving it, you might want to make sure there is no way she can get that long hair caught in the chain and sprockets.  That happened around here a while back.

Reply:Nice Job!Regarding the rear axle, how do you keep it from sliding side to side in turns?I've been planning a similar kart for my kids using an engine and transmission from a Shadow 500, but I can't decide on a rear axle design.There are no small projects

Reply:i think an old 250cc dirt bike would be a good fit. back in AZ when i was hanging out with a frend that had a monster truck and managed show's for them, he hired a guy that had a team of like 6 minie monster truck go carts that raced in between the main show's and they all had 250's in them, looked like great fun, lots of wheelieing and donuts going on. plenty of power at a more reasonable $$ summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.
