Reply:I would like to see the aluminum foil welded togather.  I've heard of it just never tried it or seen it.  I doubt I could anyway.  That would make some good pics though.  I'm amazed at Zap's skill, as well as others in here.  I don't have a lot of time on the tig but maybe one day I can lay down a bead like some of yall.  Stainless comes pretty easy to me though, I can tig that.  Aluminum is a little harder for me.  I think I always try to go to fast with to much heat.  It don't matter how good you are at something there's always someone better.DewayneDixieland WeldingMM350PLincoln 100Some torchesOther misc. tools
Reply:Zap,I can do those tiny little welds on stainless. I would think this would be difficult. But nooooooooo I can do it. The problem is I have no use for it. I just can not get my aluminum welds to lok ANYWHERE as nice as my SS welds. I wish you were closer to Yuma, AZ. I am at the corner of Glamis. Which, if you ever ride a quad, you know exactly where I am. I could make so much money if I could do aluminum better. I have gotten to the point where I am turning down work because I am so worried about it. Reply:Everheard of undercut? Did it pass X-ray? It won't. Sorry for the rant...no, actually, I'm not sorry.. you're a "decent" welder, but the students that read this board need to know that you aren't GOD, and they can be better without the attitude.of course its undercut..its only fusedyou did'nt read the first post did ya?  and i never claimed to be god..i dont want to be god..i have enough to do..so everyone (me included) lighten up will ya!!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Mostly I weld on big things, outdoors and sometimes (sometimes HAH! - all winter!) in the rain. So I like to see cool processes used on things I don't normally see. I thought this thread would be cool to look at. Turns out "lets get small" applies to minds as well!  Anybody doing tiny work, please post a pic. We really are interested out here! And regarding the undercut... I would have been lucky just to not have melted the whole thing down to a shiny red puddle!Last edited by bluestreak; 10-01-2006 at 09:01 AM.

Reply:so..whats your point?titanium? thats cheating...lets see some "real world" stuff..razorblades is no problem...how many did it take?real world...like rollers and journals that need rebuilding..stuff that needs to be watertight the first time...stuff that needs no burn thru without purging...small is small i'll agree...but what about the finess?(sp) welding..look i dont know what your problem is...and by the way planes are riveted together  (the important stuff)and i never called you a liaryou do know what i'm typing about.by brother is a loadmaster on a C-5 galaxy...thats good enough for me..i love a challenge.. it only makes us betternote i use the word US look you dont have anything to proove...neither do i..i already have......zap!Last edited by zapster; 10-02-2006 at 09:31 PM.I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.why not compare dicks......Theres no such thing as scrap metal, its all good.

Reply:Let's agree to this, I couldn't walk into your shop and do what you do and you couldn't walk in here and do my job.I love a challenge as well, it would be fun for US while also providing a positive contribution to the board.agreed!you would'nt want to work here anyway...there's too many "idiots" to put up with here ... i'd give you a hug but that would take a bit....i hold no grudges...wheres elder been lately?  ...zap!Last edited by zapster; 10-02-2006 at 10:57 PM.I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Thank you for posting the micro weld pics Xwelder. Very nice work.   I will have to get some razor blades and feeler guages now an give it a shot the next time I have the tig fired up, now that I've seen it can be done. Theres a big difference between seeing it and hearing that it can be done by someones 3rd cousin's friend.
Reply:I... uhm... yea... simply amazed by the abilities of some of the people I've seen their pics of ( the manifold, the razorblade and feeler stock: the latter two are a first for me having seen them )... I've HEARD the stories of the razorblades and beer cans welded together, but it wasn't until I joined this forum to learn more that I finally seen pics of them.  All I have to say is IMPRESSIVE.  Guess I better get off my kiester and get a real tig machine and practice, practice, practice... I have a LOT of catching up to do.Thanks for sharing the pics, gotta say it again, impressive!!
Reply:i think its best to let the jab slide off and try to stay frendly after all we all see things diferently. and no one here is trying to take the others job. we also need to keep in mind the title given by a forem means nothing, on the miler motor sports board i am a seinor member, not due to what i know but reather due to the almost 4,000 post. i have been a member there for about 5 years, most of the time other members stick up for me when i am atacked but i still let it slide off (most of the time) and when i realy feel atacked i just give them the old BITE ME line and then let it go. thease forem can be a great sorce of knolage and fun, bickering and holding grugess just screw it up for every one. i have lerned a lot on them over the years and am happy to share what i have picked up be it first hand or off the net. but we must all still understand not evey one will have the same results with the same tools, so try it and ajust as needed.i still want to see a aluminum can cut in 1/2 and welded back togather in the midle, like a can with 2 tops LOL i always see it where they welded the 2 ends togathere but never seen the midle. so now you have a task lets see what you can do with it. 8^)) summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email protected] i got lots of time.

Reply:
i'd loose  ...zap!
lol  good call zap man some people take things out of context as I read this post I was reading about a small job zap had to and wanted to show us all nothing wrong with that I like to see what other work we all do then a sh*t fight get's started some how man who cares we all do different work and its good to see what the others do there will always be welding work that some of us are good at and some are not its cool some of us weld little stuff some do big stuff and some of us can do both I for one have been welding 28yrs and just from reading this forum have learn"t stuff and tryed stuff I would never of bother with before like welding a pair of razor blades together thats what the site is about learning and sharing just for the record Peter 14 (big noter  )are wanting to start a contest that most of will lose   :Creative metal Creative metal Facebook
Reply:cutting is easy if you sacrifice 1/2 the can. just draw a line around the middle, then jab a pair of sisiors threw below the line and cut up to the line. any sisors will work nothing special neded. i think 2 tops would be best as it will let the inside presher out, although a can with 2 unopend tops would make quite the conversation pice. unforchanetly it looks like i dont get to play this game as my TIG is down.  i'm hoping its just a lack of adiquit power in my shop and all i need to do is upgrade the service to my shop... ..did i say all i need is.  although it might be the new foot controle i got i dont think i tryed it after they replaced my foot controle, i'm looking into it. if i need to upgrade my power service i will need to sell a lot of covers to pay for that one. ZAP you have been verry good and for that you get your cookies back at nappie time, its duble fudge chocolet chip today.  so lets all get back to the task at hand, i will put the same task to the other sites i hang out at and we shale see who manages to GET-ER-DONE first. i'll post any i find on all the sites so no one is left out.wellowith the number of people on thease sites its almost imposible not to lern something new once in a wile, weather it be something simple like putting a washer over a snaped off bolt befor welding on a nut or somthing like using bees wax as a lube. trades people and thouse that work with there hands tend to come up with interesting solutions and a place like this is a great opertunity to lern and share those lil tricks you have picked up in a moment of need.so i tend to let the bickering slide and continue to gather the vast amounts of knolage available. after all sticks and stones may break my bones but whips and chains excite me...... ... wait thats not the right one.....lets see sticks and stones...sumtin., sumtin, sumtin, words will kill me..... , no thats not it eather.... oh well you get the idea.8^)) summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email protected] i got lots of time.
