I would like to make a few .22 caliber targets and some handgun targets.... anyone ever made any?I'm looking for ideas, hints, and hopefully pictures.Thank you.***************************************Lincoln AC225 stick welderLincoln HD100 WeldPak flux core wire feed welderThree of the cheapest grinders money can buy
Reply:I made some targets for my kid's air rifle, but that wouldn't hold up to a .22. I got my ideas from target sites such as this:http://www.blackwaterusa.com/targets...rgetsracks.aspThe one thing they all seem to have in common is the use of AR500 or Brinnel 500 steel plate. I guess it can take a beating.Lincoln AC-225
Reply:i took some 12 ga steel and cut out some sillouettes. these are 5 foot tall with wedges where the feet go and they stand up on their own when stabbed in the dirt. i know my jacketed hollow points go through it with no prob."Retreat hell, were just fighting in the other direction"Miller Trailblazer 302, Extreme 12 VS, Dimension 400, Spectrum 375, HF 251D-1, Milermatic 251 w/ spoolgun  Hypertherm 1000Lincoln sp 1702000 F-450 to haul it
Reply:AR500 is used for high-powered rifle plates.  Mild steel will work for .22LR and smaller pistol calibers.  Here's some info you should read:http://www.actiontarget.com/pdf/Stee...urce_Guide.pdf-Heath
Reply:i made a few out of some 1/8" steel plate i had around for shooting with skeet shot and 22cal i just dubled it up. put it on a pipe over a smaller pipe with a wait at the bottem so when you hit it with the 12gage it spunn the 22 just caused a rocking motion. one is a bird the other a rabbit. i'll take a few pic's in the AM for ya. as you will see it wont hold up to a 12 gage slug, yep it was bond to happen, what can ya do right, oh well i'll weld a plate over it some day or maybee not. it was quick and simple and works well. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.
Reply:I made one for my step dad. The frame was made like a gantry crane...two A-frames on each side and one tube conneting the two at the top. I then made three hang down targets that would swing around and over the top when hit. I used 2inch thich plate and cut out 5inch circles as the actual target point. He was using an 8mm fireformed shell and a custom bullet he made. Apparently, whatever rifle he was using had some serious freaking power. He smashed the heck out of all three targets with one shot a piece. Crazy hunters. He shoots deer with that cannon.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
Reply:A .223 from a Mini-14 will leave a 1/2-inch copper-plated hole in 1/4" mild steel. Then, you get to weld the holes shut.  Best of both worlds.
Reply:I've made some out of 1/4 mild steel plate in the shape of a rabbit they held up well until I broke out my 243 which penetrated the plate.
Reply:if you just intend it for 22cal not high power rounds the 1/8 held up but dubling it with a lil suport in the back would be the best bet, or some 3/16" would also work well.here are the ones i made, keep in mind as with most every thing i make its out of scraps so it could be much nicer if it was made with matereals ment for the job. i cut out all the shapes with my spec 125-C it worked realy well for the job, for a lil fella its prety handy.1 is the bird, as you can see a 12 gage slug did not stop but punched threw, thats the 1/8" single layer, it works well with bird shot even as close as 10ft.3,5,and 8 are the rabbit. its 2 layers with some suport for the ears to keep it from bending but i dont know if its needed just did it to make shore the ears would not bend as it was intended for the 22 long shells out of our rifle. 3 is the front view, 5 is a close up of the back and 8 is a full shot of the back.hope this helps get ya started. i just used 2 pices of pipe that would slide over one another to make it so it would spin nothing fancy but it works well, always need to be able to tell if ya hit it from a distance ya know, so be shore to alow some type of movement, this will also help prevent the round from going threw by alowing the target to move insted of standing aginst the full force of the round. Reply:I made one out of 3/4"  CRS. A Russian 7.62 x 54R round will still leave a pretty good dent in it. Especially when they are steel jacketed...
Reply:a guy who belongs to the same gun club i do, sliced up some railroad axles and welded a frame so they swing when they are hit.  A two inch slice of axle will absorb a lot of impact.  They last for years on the .22 range and about six months on the rifle range.
Reply:the 7.62 is a bit hard to stop, we fond it to have a distinkt advantage in the trees over the 223 of the m16 in nam.still we seem to have gotten a bit off track he is just trying to make a target for a 22cal rifel for playing. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.
