Hi there, Im just wondering what this symbol is on the back of my welder above a small hole. (sorry bad picture) Im not too familiar with electrical symbols, usually its pretty obvious but this one I cant figure out. Attached Images
Reply:I believe that's a ground symbol for an electrical hookup."The man of great wealth owes a peculiar obligation to the State, because he derives special advantages from the mere existence of government."  Teddy RooseveltAmerican by birth, Union by choice!  Boilermakers # 60America is a Union.

Reply:i think the upside down christmas tree is ground. pretty sure. final answer        thermal arc 252i  -  millermatic 350P -   miller XMT, cp300ts, 30a 22a feeders, buttload of other millers, handfull of lincolns, couple of esabs  -   Hypertherm 1250 G3
Reply:Earth groundIf you cannot convince them, confuse them.         Harry S Truman
Reply:Great, thank you. So I guess if I may be working in a moist area or somewhere where there may be risk of shock I should hook up a ground wire?
Reply:I would think that it is already grounded through the power plug; the round pin on the plug should be connected to the metal case of the welder. Check for continuity with a multi meter, case to ground pin on the plug?
Reply:alien prison tatoo....the machine should be chassis grounded through the power cord...usually a green wire...
Reply:Your right it is already grounded with the power cord I should have realized that. Whats the point of the extra grounding hole/attachement then? Perhaps if the power source doesnt have a built in ground?
Reply:That is a high frequency ground if it is a tig welder.  It should be grounded separately to an outside ground rod.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT

Reply:I always thought it was for an earth ground. On some jobsites I thought they make you bury a rod and you have to connect it to there to ground the machine. I am pretty sure my Honda generators have them also."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!!
