Got a stainless roller in today to "modify"When it came in i could "jiggle" the shaft that was in it..My boss aid "Just weld the shaft to the face and go over EVERYTHING"..Hmmmmm.."everything?""Yup keyways and everything"..."ooooooooook your the boss"..this roller had threaded "caps" on each end of the journals that tightend against the face of the roller to keep everything in line..but one cap kept getting loose (you need a left hand thread vs. a right hand thread to stop this from happening but both ends were threaded right hand   )So heres the roller..its not very clean..when i got it clean as best i could with acetone and a stainless wire brush i noticed it had a .020 gap between the journal and the head..so the obvious thing to do is to fuse it first and see if it would crack..it did not so all is good..next post.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:So heres the first fuse pass250 amps just burn it in..heres the first filler pass..heres the stitch pass..notice how you keep welding untill you go past the keyways..no stopping and starting untill you get all the way past the key... and there you have it!remember dont stop and start over "objects".....keep going untill you get to a easy place to stop.. i wonder what tomorrow will bring.... ...zap!Last edited by zapster; 11-15-2006 at 05:22 PM.I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:"Just Weld It", is one of my favorite phrases. I have learned always do as the customer asks, they will call you back later to undo it.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Zap, and this is a serious question, how long do you estimate it takes to get to the point of making welds that look like yours? For a hobbyist welding a few times a week, is it a year, 5 years? Never?Just wondering if I should hold out hope or not  - John
