I made this neat cart with 2 inclined shadow boards to hold all my c clamps and vise grips on the other side. It's on casters so I can roll it to wherever I'm working. Looks really neat. Problem is the stupid thing is always in the friggin way. Anybody have any really clever ideas to store this stuff out of the way? I can clamp the vise grips to the channel supporting my welding table top but what do I do with the c clamps? I have a bunch of both.Jim Attached ImagesCut an MGB and widened 11" C4 Corvette suspension and LT1 Chevrolet power & 6 spd. Reply:Just run a piece of rod between the legs and hang the clamps on them.  You can also hang grinders and with a piece of tube make drill hostelers.Have we all gone mad?

Reply:Funny how so many of use come up with the same solutions to things. I hang my vice grips and clamps on a rod like others and I also hang my six angle grinders on a flat strip like those in the photo above.I am curious tigmusky, is that PVC pipe your vice grips are hanging on?I also have a flat bar with all my tape measures clipped onto it.
Reply:I'm bettin' on pipe welded to some flat.  Either plug welds from behind, or regular fillets on one side of the pipe as you go down the row.  Wouldn't take much of a weld to hold a vice grip."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:i ve used 6in pvc pipe cut about 6-7 in off the end and bolted em to my table to store grinder flap disk and wire wheel protects em a little from getting grinding dust on em and its under the table so their really acessible and i have a surge protecter so thet are all pluuged in and cords arent tangled and ready to go
Reply:tig musky i have the same milwalke chop saw i just got it and i really like  also funny how a carpenters speed sqaure is a useful welding tool any job i do involving straight lines that the 1st thing i grab next to soap stone or silver pencil and tape i also built a tube contraption with a c clamp on it to hold small stuff to "man glue" together and i always have a good ground and its at the right height
Reply:got  some 2 x 1/2 channel so i used it to hang vise grips, and damn near everything else.. Attached Images
Reply:Jim, Here is a pic of the clamp rack that I'm currently using. I have tried several different methods, from piling them in a box to hanging them from a bar under my welding table, but this one works better than the others. It's not portable, but works for me.Mark Attached ImagesLast edited by 67chevelle; 04-29-2009 at 11:30 PM.Reason: spelling

Reply:I'm in the process of building a steel table that swings down from the wall of my garage.  It's not finished by any stretch, but the other day it occurred to me that I could put clamps on the aluminum backsplash area and they'd be out of sight when I'm not welding. So today I put the clamps up.  The table will be reinforced some more -- as well as having the top surface stripped bare (I bought it already built for another use).  The underside and legs will be primed and painted yellow to match the wall.  The downside to this scheme is that there's not a lot of expandability for adding more clamps down the line.  But additional stuff can go on my smaller, portable table.  The upside is that I'm less likely to misplace this particular set of clamps now, since it's immediately apparent when one hasn't been put pack away.
Reply:Jack how did you hang up the clamps and VG? Would you be so kind enough to post some more closeup pics of the table and legs. I was contemplating on building a welding table but on second thoughts your design will be more appropriate for me as I would like to save as much space on my 2 car garage for future use.Newbie here on a first project. Thanks a lot.
Reply:i like keeping my clamps in a desk drawer ....just the drawers if u can find the right ones, keeps thing out of the way but organized   u might need a few

Reply:Hey Stick-man, I'm in Meridian Idaho A short story.. Last summer my wife called me one Friday as she was out doing her garage-sale thing and told me that a place she was at had a lot of machinist/welding tools for sale.I drove over and was floored with how low the prices were, I picked up a 4'x8' welding/fab table with a 1 inch thick top for $250 and a lot of machining tools really cheap. As I was BS'ing with the guy having the sale, another customer walked in and asked about a box of 8 - 12 inch Bessey welding clamps that were in the corner and the owner said "you can have them for $5 each" Needless to say, the guy took them all.I then did a better job of looking around at all of the stuff inquiring as to the prices, and found a box of 15 11r and 11sp vice grips, asked what he wanted, and he gave them to me for nothing since I had already purchased so much stuff. I wish I had been a little quicker, and I'd have had $400 worth of additional clamps for $40.o'well, live and learn..Marl Originally Posted by Stick-manWOW, nice collection.
