was wondering, 1/2 respirator VS full respirator, with the big clear face shield types, i figure its better at keeping dust outta your eyes and such for better overall protection, anyone got any opinions or experience with welding/grinding with a full respirator mask?
Reply:They make the full face respriator that have a flip down shield for welding. I think they even make them that hold an auto darkening lens. I haven't used them though.Tough as nails and damn near as smart
Reply:Get out your wallet and bend over... Those that do won't come cheap. Most full face units won't fit well under a standard hood. We used to weld in confined space areas that required full respirators in the same helmet sets we used for dive operations even though the compartments were dry. It was cheaper and easier to have us do the work, than find regular welders with the proper equipment..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:I've seen the full face with flip down lense at use in Nuke plants......Cant be cheap DaKK
Reply:http://www.welding.com.au/dm303-87/vortex-papr-system/i use it for FCAW, gal work, and hardfacing. not cheap though, i paid $1500 for the helmet and vortex package.

Reply:I think something like thishttp://www1.mscdirect.com/CGI/NNSRIT...51822&PMT4NO=0 is what he might be wanting at a resonable price.Tough as nails and damn near as smart
Reply:The full face respirator with the snap-on welding face sheild is just about useless.  When you flip up the dark lens your field of veiw is like looking down a 4" pipe that is 6" long and that face sheild is difficult to remove and install .

Reply:I wear this at work. Takes a little getting used to, but the benefits are great. The respirators sell on ebay for 50 bucks and up. Haven't seen the welding attachment there in a while - I have an extra if you go this route. Pro's outweigh the cons - if you work in a crappy environment like me!Just another clown trying to be cool

Reply:I like wearing it because I don't have to worry about dust, sparks, slag etc. I have gotten to the point that if somethings "coming at me" I don't even blink or squint, I know my mask will protect me.Just another clown trying to be cool
