i will be making trailers and other basic stuff. i will welding up 3/8 inch thick metal, mainly angle and square tubing. i heard that the stick welders tend to "stick" to square tubing and wire feed was better for square tubing as it doesnt stick that much. i plan on using flux cored wire. will this wire be suitable for building trailers? which type of welder should i buy stick or wire feed?thanksjdw
Reply:if you plan on using wire feed will you only be using flux-cored wire?

Reply:A lot less cleanup time with mig versus fluxcore or stick.
Reply:When I was working on a trailer in class I only used MIG welding, But I'm sure stick would work beautifully. Mind you what Sandy said is completely true experience will play a huge part in what method you decide to use. I would go for MIG it would work very good and Riley is right from what I obsereved on my youth apprenticeship time is flux core is in the same way as stick kind of more dirty, Theres slag you have to clean up and such but if you do get a mig welder you can always very sometihng to make it a fluxcore welder as well (if im not mistaken). But good luck and keep us updated on your trailer

Reply:The answer to your question is wire is intended for production type welding and is usually more expensive to run then stick,as far as quality that depends on your level of experience. Go with what you are comfortable with.
Reply:Get a MIG Welder!! You can do well enough with stick  & it will work. MIG is just a lot better for overall use. I think any way.

Reply:I am currently building trailers and I wouldn't use anything other than mig just because of the time it takes. If I were to stick or tig these things together, it would take much longer so the first welder I purchased was a wire feed. Every so often I would like a tig/stick machine but completely not necessary for what I am doing. Hope I helped.Bill
