Gosh It's been awhile since I've on this site. I see everyone including Zapster is still busy posting and it's great to see and read all about it. I even noticed there's a guy named honda_hater1 on here now so he should really love this post Ha! Ha!. Anyway I took a break from my usual fabrication work on Coke coolers, gas pumps, tool making and the like and decided to do something different for a change so I found an old beat up 1965 Honda 305 Dream and started in. The frame was good although some of the side of the beast was dented in and I had to do a little Mig welding. One of the front aluminum hubs and to be Tig welded and machined. Allot of the chrome parts had to be replated. All I need to do now is wait for my whitewall tires and she's out of here. Hey I even learned a few new cuss words in the process. I know It's not a full fledged fabrication job but it's a good excuse to drop in and say hello again to everyone. 1965 Honda 305 Dream and started in. Reply:Understanding that this IS a welding site, restorations DO usually involve some welding. Very Cool!   I have always loved these Dream bikes.  I'm sure that they are hard to find, especially fully restored like yours. I've had several old Hondas in the past.  A step-through 50, trail 90 and a super hawk dirt bike(?). Now I'm dating myself!I'm currently playing around with a couple of Honda Express'.  I have a working '82 50cc I juiced up with a Yamaha YZ80 big carb, four-petal reed valve block manifold I fabbed, 65cc big bore kit and an expansion chamber.  I built this to kick the neighbor kid's a** with their little Go Ped stuff. I'm also restoring an Urban Express (also red).  It's the same thing only it looks sort of like a chopper.Old Hondas never die! Reply:Man what a restoration!AWESOME job....How much did you spend more less? Hey rick you need to post you bikes then My Babies: HF Drill pressHF Pipe Bender3   4.5" Black and Decker angle grindersLincoln Electric PROMIG 175that´s it!
Reply:shorts - as always, you do an extremely excellent job restoring stuff. One question though - how do you manage your time? Do you put in a 10 hour day or is it a few hours here and there? I'm amazed at how quickly you seem to finish stuff. John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Thanks Rick. As you'll already know to achieve the end result of these restorations It requires fabricating any number of unique tooling to get to the finished product.  I've attached a picture one of these tools that is a wheel truing stand I built this past Sunday to do my wheels for this old bike. I really like the pics you posted of the bike. Looks brand new. Haven't seen one before like it around these parts. I also just completed a 1964 Honda CT200.elvergon I haven't tallied up the total cost yet. That may take longer that it took to do the beast. Wife's going to kill me when she finds out the cost. MicroZone you asked me where I find the time to do this stuff. Well most of my customers ask the same question when they come in for there repair work. We are closed on the weekends and shut down each evening at 5:00. PM so I start at this stuff after that. Over this past weekend I put in two 16 hour days but it still didn't seem like work. Thanks for the kind words guys. Here's a few pics of the truing stand. Made out of scrap I found around the shop. It may not look like much and a simple design but it works!Miller 302 Trailblazer/Custom TrailerMillermatic 350P/Spool gunMillermatic 252Miller Spectrum 875Miller Dynasty200DxHypertherm Powermax 85Tracker CNC 4X8 Pro Table (Down Draft)Visit us @ www.specialtyrepairscustommods.com

Reply:1965 Honda 305 Dream. I'm not much of a bike enthusiast, but that one came out looking like a real sweet heart. I'll bet she's proud to be back on the road.

Reply:i supose its kinda like rebuilding an old lawn mower insted of just getting a new on, you like the one you have so you rebuild it. i'm shore many people realy like thouse lil hondas and you must be one of them. its defently a compliment on the work you did , you did a great job. too many old bikes just get threwn out and replaced by new ones cuzz its easyer and some times cheaper..great job. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.
Reply:Man, such a cool project.  Beuty is in the eye of the beholder, but whether or not vintage bikes are your thing, the effort alone that went into this project deserves some serious credit!!Good Stuff!!
Reply:Very nice work on this sweet machine. This bike sure brings back memories... of riding my Honda 250 around the northern end of Honshu in the early 60's.  I purchased my 250 about two weeks before the 305 became available, but had a good time, anyway.
Reply:Beautiful job, Paul. Next, we need a picture of you in full biker regalia and a ZZ Top beard astride the completed bike.
