Might as well introduce myself aswell. I'm Matt Ressler. I'm about to be 17 and live in Kingston, NY. I attend Ulster County BOCES Welding program. I've been welding for almost a year now and primarily weld SMAW. My teacher has picked me to begin practicing for my DOT certification. I've previously been using 6011 rod and have welded flat, horizontal, vertical and over-head for quite some time now. I'm switching to 7018 tomorrow to start practicing.Hfas anybody here taken their DOT test? What should I expect and do you have any tips that you personally believe helped? Thanks for any help.
Reply:I have not taken the DOT test but its similar to the AWS test which is a 3g and 4g weld on 1" plate w 5/32" 7018. You really need to get your skills with 7018 down to perfect. You should learn to weld both in stringers and a weave because you may or may not be allowed to run a weave and you may or may not be allowed to use a grinder. So start burning some rod young man! |
