I am studying for my Red Seal test and came across this question and i'm having trouble with it. Here it is: What would be the radius of a 6" (15cm) long raduis 90 degree elbow?a. 6 inches (15cm)b. 9 inches (23 cm)c. 12 inches (30cm)d. 15 inches (38cm)Thanks.
Reply:I Googled an got this definition: 90 degree elbow, also called "90 bends or 90 ells", are manufactured as SR (Short Radius) elbows and LR (Long Radius) elbows. SR (Short Radius) elbows have a Center-to-Face dimension of 1.0 X diameter and are typically used in tight areas where clearances are an issue. LR (Long Radius) elbows have a Center-to-Face dimension of 1.5 X diameter and are the more common type and used when space is available and flow is more critical.

Reply:90's are 1.5 the diameter.. i say 90 because it's standard.. usually when you order a 90 it's long radius.. like you don't even hafta' say "long radius".. just "90".. so the answer is 9".. a "short radius" 90 is only 1 times the diameter.. so a LR is 9, and a SR is 6... now to find the takeout of a 45, you split the diameter in half, 4 times.. so for a 6" 45, you would go 6-3-1.5-.75... then add the 2nd and 4th number, which would be 3.75 inches.. i need to take me one of those tests.. that would be cool.. anywhere i could take one just for fun?.. just to see how i would do?..if you're not livin on the edge, you're takin up too much room..
