Here's a log splitter I built a few years ago. It's powered by a 1968 Briggs 8 hp rescued from an old lawn mower. It has sevred me well, not to mention saved by back !  I burn wood as my main heat source. Attached ImagesNot a beginner, not a pro !
Reply:i see it can run horizontal also..good job!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Looks really nice
Reply:Wow! When I saw the title I was expecting some kind of small rig. You don't kid around. Nice going.Warning: I have been wrong before!New small workshop, small MIG, oxyacetylene set with a DHC-2000 that I'm learning to use and really like. Life is good!Typos are there for those that look for them. I try to do something for everybody.
Reply:A friend of mine brought his splitter over Saturday because he had broken the wedge off and wanted me to weld it back on. The wedge was 1" thick and the original weld bead was about 3/16" wide and was so full of holes there was rust under the wedge and on the I-beam.  I told him to go look at mine.... he was shocked how much heavier built mine was !  It's a horse for sure !Not a beginner, not a pro !
Reply:looks pretty cool...i gotta build one of those!
Reply:That's a great looking log splitter! I always wanted to build one and I finally got around to it.  I've got it operational, now just gotta get around to sandblasting and paint.I set mine up with a 3 point hitch and a PTO driven hydraulic pump.  I used an old propane tank for the oil resevoir.  I'm pretty happy with the way it came out.  It'll definitely "Git er dun!"  Unfortunately, my wife lost the camera this past weekend.  I'll have to take some new pictures of it and post them.Work HARDER, not smarter! ------------------------ Miller Bobcat 250Millermatic 251Lincoln Precision TIG 185Hypertherm PM 600Hobart 135 HandlerOxweld 400 FlameMaster
Reply:To:  PlanewelderNice size and good job.  Sure wish my knees still worked like yours.  I overhauled a large home-built vertical splitter for a neighbor a couple years ago.  I told him I'd do it just for fun and he told me I could use it whenever I need it.  This is a great arrangement... he has to find a place to store it, but I get to use it, whenever.  Can't imagine using anything but vertical, after using this splitter.  It will split anything we can roll onto the base. If it were horizontal, it would take 3 or 4 guys to lift some of the logs we have split.Last edited by Weldordie; 01-03-2007 at 12:29 AM.
Reply:Nice splitter ya got.  I think a post driver that mounts on the front of a tractor would be an ideal splitter.  Super fast splitting!  I've done a couple of them, unfortunatly I don't have any pics.  It's been 5-6 years ago, definatly the way to go driving wood posts in the ground.  I'm suprised I haven't seen a splitter on the same principle.DewayneDixieland WeldingMM350PLincoln 100Some torchesOther misc. tools
Reply:Some neigbors and I just cut and split 6 truckloads of wood this afternoon using the new woodsplitter.  As I said in an earlier post, it mounts on a 3 point hitch on the back of a tractor.  It works only in the vertical position, but like the one that Weldordie mentioned, it'll bust anything we can roll up on the base plate.  We were splitting stuff 2'X2'.  It wouldn't have been much fun lifting those up on a horizontal splitter.I'll sleep well tonight... Reply:The last 2 trees I split up were 24" silver maples. One of the (next door neighbor's) fell on the power line in front of my house and jerked the cross members off 2 power poles and the wire off the next 3! Glad I didn't have to pay that repair bill. Got the wood for free ..... nice side bar of having a spitter !Not a beginner, not a pro !
