i am interested in going to a welding school and am considering tulsa welding school. i am hoping for some input from the pro's about what you did to get where you have, and what you might do differently if you had it to do again.i appreciate your time and input.turkDynasty 200DXPassport plus w/ spoolmate 100victor 315c oxy/(act and prop)Miller digital elitemilwaukee power tools
Reply:I got my A.A in welding and fabrication and my B.S in welding engineering.  If I did it again, I worked thru college as a welder.I loved every second of it, and I would do it again. My only advice is go for it and stick it out for the piece of paper. sometimes you have to take B.S classes but the benefit is worth it.

Reply:I've taken classes at Hobart in Troy and Lincoln in Cleveland. Both are top notch facilities with an excellent intructional staff, and I would highly recommend them. Both are only a 2hr drive for me, Alaska is a bit further.CWI, CWE, CST for Miller, Lincoln, Thermadyne, Hypertherm & ESABMillermatic 350PLincoln Invertec 205 AC/DCVictor combo torchESAB PCM 1125
Reply:Northwest College is a great college to get a Associates degree from..pretty cheap as well. Good reputation for turning out good welders also. your second day you are welding. a lot of welding and not much book work. All the instructors have real world experience and they believe if you aint welding then how can you learn with your nose in a book. Don't get me wrong there is book work and reports on material evaluation and the like but it coincides with the shop work. That piece of paper will mean something later onJerodHypertherm 30Miller Syncrowave 200Millermatic 140and a propane torch and hanger if all else fails

Reply:Sorry to hear they shut down, good institution of learning a trade.  I got to admit it has been a few years since I was there.  Think it was 1983 or 84.  Check on U of A.  They had a Auto / Diesel degree as well as the Welding program.  Back then they had the shops & equipment necessary.  Took lots of floor space & they had buildings dedicated to both of those programshttp://www.uaa.alaska.edu/ctc/progra...-ndt/index.cfm
