This is a 30X40 Menard's building.  As you can see in the first photo I had to build a wall around three sides just to hold in the rock and floor.  Due to the covenants on the ground I purchased behind the building I was forced to sandwich it onto my existing lot.  It would have been bigger,  but most of you know how the other half feels about blocking their view.  The wall was a killer for an old man like me,  but I'm satisfied with it now.  Have since added three  more windows,  and partitioned off a 16X16 room that is insulated, and heated.  Will post pics of that later. Reply:Very nice and on top of that you built it on a hill. That is more work and more $, congratulations on a fine building!John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Very nice building.  Pardon my "city boy" ignorance, but why do you guys call it a pole barn?  It appears to have a clear, full span floor space.  I would think a pole barn would have ceiling to floor supports in it?You'd better get those shopping carts back to the Winn Dixie!  Hobart 140 Handler w/ gasHyperTherm Powermax 380 Plasmaoxy/acetylene
Reply:This particular barn has 17 41/2" X 51/2" square beams that hold it up.  they are burried aprox 45" in the ground.  The rafters give you your open air span.  I'm not sure how wide you can go with this construction,  but I have seen them over 50 feet.Being "over the hill" is much better than being under it!
Reply:Hey, I like the whole setting. Great shop. I can see phase II coming up in my mind. Put a pad on that lower side, extend the roof line == equipment storage.
Reply:A pole barn is the least expensive way and quickest way to build a barn. Poles are driven or dug into the ground. Horizontal members called girts join the poles together. Vertical siding is then applied to enclose the space, called purlins and board and batten. Most people today use still use the purlins for side structure but use metal to enclose, which makes it faster. The beauty of this method is that no foundation is required. Here is the blueprint for a 32x40x10 pole barn, to give you an idea on the post placement: http://www.coolhouseplans.com/quickv...&Image=fl1.gifJohn -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:Snitz, Do you get much snow where you are? If so don't forget to have a little hop in your step when you come out of that man door and close it. We have one under the eves on my shop and it has been known to drop down enough snow to flatten someone. Earlier this year we got about a foot of heavy wet snow and when it came down off our roof it took down a chimney near the bottom of the eves. -Cory

Reply:Very nice shop. I put up a 40x64 Menards about 3 years ago. I think they are the best pole building. They use very good rafters and you can build to your budget. I only put cement in half and crushed concrete in the back half. The back is just used for parking leaky tractors and other vehicles. Good luck with the building and have fun.He who dies with the most tools wins

Reply:Very nice building! I can certainly appreciate the retaining wall. I used to build large commercial walls when I was 14-18. Very hard work.Patriot Performance AutoLincoln Power Mig 255CLincoln AC-225 StickVictor Journeyman O/AQuincy QT-5 Compressor
