My wife just taught me how to use the camera and upload pics so I have been snapping everything.Take a good look at the first picture and try to think what it is.Then look at the second one to see. Attached Images
Reply:nice!
Reply:Nice Bow rack, their not hanging on there by there strings are they? If they are it sure looks painful.
Reply:I decided I liked to set it up this way as you mentioned I did not really like to hang them by the strings. And I also thought they would rock in the wind when hanging sideways.I seldom have more than one bow out when I shoot. And I do not often shoot with more than 1 person. But if I would need to hang 4 bows I still could use it either way. There are still ways I could change it to hang 4 bows this way.I would just have to put a threaded 3/8 rod about 8 inches long through the outer hole and center it with locknuts. Then I could easily slip a piece of vinal over the rod to hang the cam on thus 4 bows could hang spread apart far enough to stay away from each other. Reply:Welditnow I like that way much better. Now I am gonna have to make one Thanks alot like i didnt have enough projects going on at one time   . I will have to look around and see what i can find at work for scrap. I'll have to make it out of titanium though. Those bows you have their mathews right? I shoot jennings CK 3.1R and my son shoots Bowtech rascal daughter shoots genessis and the wife shoots Jennings rackmaster.
Reply:Last october I had 17 compounds Mostly PSE long axel.I sold every one of them as the newest model was an 97.So I leaped into the nerew tech bows first with a bowtech wheely/sold hated the cam rollback/PSE Mojo3d/loved it but bought it for 300 and sold for 375 to get into the switchback for 450/The Bows in the rack are Mathews Q2XL and the Switchback.I did a long search to find the Q2xl for 300 i THINK THE Q2XL IS AWSOME.I have not even shot the switchback as I just got it and just now recieved a trophy taker dropaway in the mail and am eager to set it up as I have never had a dropaway.I had all Golden key premiers on at least a dozen of the 17 bows I sold but I kept them and sold my bows bare.So then I had big fun selling a huge lot of premiers 1 at a time.I purposly bought PSE bows that needed repair as I loved to change cams and I made all my strings and cables on my stringmaker I welded up.I sold that also as I am trying to keep it down to 3 bows now.And all the strings are much higher quality on the mathews. My third bow now is still a PSE xlr 43 axel 50-60.I will continue to use the xlr for hunting for 2 reasons.I hunt in a knarley pine tree and I hunt high and I do not want to scratch the mathews as they are un mint cond.I also stick to 60 pounds for cold weather hunting. The next biggest reason for keeping the long axel is I have taken 32 deer with my long axel PSE's since 1993.Now since I got off topic with the archery I can fix it.I traded a couple of my PSE,s for oxy/acet tanks and a torch set up.I am using the torch to bend  brackets for the rollers for bow presses.Today I am making a press for the parrallel limb mathers.Got all the pieces cut out and almost done with drilling so I am about to weld it togeather.I also just make a bowpress and traded the press and a pse bow to a plumber who just completed our long needed 2nd batroom. If you want to take this archery talkhttp://www.archerytalk.com/vb/index.php or the PSE forumhttp://forums.pse-archery.com/ You will easily find me there.Gary
Reply:Welditnow, I like that idea.  I may have to build something like that to use at home.  I apologize for not responding to the PM you sent me a while back,   I was pretty busy at work, and home, and never got around to responding.  How about some pics of the string jig you made?  Building my own strings isn't something I'm ready to start yet, but it interests me.
Reply:No problem EBFARMER You couldn't have connected at a better time.I think You had built a smoker.I finally picked up a stainless enclosure I want to make a smoker out of.My firebox will be built out of heavier gauge steel. But the questions I wished to ask you or anyone else that has made a smoker or uses one is this. How hot does the temp inside of the smoking enclosure have to be?I have heard there is a hot smoke and cold smoke method. My concern is this unit I found is only 16Ga.I have an avenue to find stainless doors for it.I have a lot of 1/4"by1 1/2 barstock to build a frame inside this for racking. The cabinet measures over 4 feet wide and is six feet high. There is a baffle inside and also the big outlet has a baffle just like the ones used inside a woodstove outlet.I know I can close this up to contain the smoke but I am concerned about warping the cabinet since its 16ga.This thing should clean up nice.It is some kind of a vent outlet for ductwork. One of these pict. is just my attempt to show how the inside baffle will let the smoke out slower.I am going to put the pics on next reply I can not seem to attatch them now.
Reply:I only paid $75 for this so I hope it will work.I will have the whole thing on a trailer when I am done. Attached Images
Reply:For cooking Boston Butts, ribs, ect...  the recommended cooking temp is usually around 225.  I have been cooking a little hotter than that, but not much.  As far as smoking summer sausage and the like I really don't know what temps the run at.  This smoking is all pretty new to me, I just started it last year when I finished my smoker, and I have a lot to learn. Here is a really good Bar-b-q forum you can check out.  There is a lot of good information here and some really knowledgable folks to answer questions.  http://www.barbecuenews.com/forum/default.aspHere is a link to plans for a smoker built from plywood.  This is a neat project.  http://forums.mathewsinc.com/viewtopic.php?t=41686
Reply:Thanks for the link.We have had good luck with jerky at 175 just with liquid smoke and soy sauce. But we thought it would be great to try real wood smoke. Many things you can do.I not only want to do sausage I shure would like to learn how to smoke fish.I bucher all my deer and spend a bit more for license as I hunt out of state so it would be nice to completly finish the meat to our liking. It took several attempts to find a market that could do our salami and polish.I just got back a bunch of beer sticks.I have a grinder so its just the right ingediants shoved in a tube. But there is a bit to learn to cure it right. Will be fun.I had a big pig roaster and did 27 hogs. But I always wanted it to be safe to serve.Mine was made out of steel and many are.I had the chance to get a large 10 ga.box but could not get it done as someone from work always jumped on it first. We made huge stainless enclosures. But since I retired I have no acsess to the stainless.I do have a couple friends and may even aproach my old boss as I surely would like to finish the unit with a couple stainless steel doors.I have been looking for a large tank for a while but have only been finding a lot of fuel oil tanks. They are a dime a dozen.I took a closer look and I can sure get a lot of racks in this thing with some framing inside.I may be able to just pick up a couple lighter gauge stainess sheet metal and just build a track to slide the doors sideways. As long as I can seal it up so smoke does not roll out the sides I think it will work with the fire box the right distance away.Back in the 70s our family weld shop made fire place inserts and wood stoves as fast as we could. But now I am just using a stick welder so welds to get a nice ground finish would be tough without the mig.The same guy I got this box from has 2 250 amp millers for sale but he wants 1200 each.I can get a 210 that will do 3//8 for not much more thats new.He also has a dandy portable generator/welder on a nice trailer for $750.But not much good to me as I can not drive it any where as I quit driving do to siezures.I am pretty happy with the cheap stick welder I have. But have to really turn down the heat when dropping vertical. And I really have a hard time getting a good looking weld when I run a bead sideways when welding something at a 90 degree angle horizontal.Mine is not ac dc it just a cheap 100 dollar century. But I sure have made a lot of neet things with that cheap stick welder.
Reply:The first picture is before I figured out how to put this thing togeather and it reminded me of my grandsons toys.He has these bionicals that assemble into little robot creatures. He was fast asleep so I went hunting for one of his toys to show the simularity but all I coul come up with was the green toy as the color matched.LOL.The first bow I tried in it was a PSE 43 AtA then I went clear to the other end and did my 32 inch mathews switchback(Paralell limb).I was delighted it worked on the SB as I was able to put the peep in and now I can shoot it for the first time. With some not so long ago help from weldweb members I got a victor torch and am having fun bending brackets.I do almost all of my work in the midle of the night in my pole barn.It has been  ten below here for a week at night. So that would make it -09 in my unheated Pole barn.So I came back into the house to measure mark and punch the holes for drilling.I even made my own custom metal knobs. And BTW if any welder have not got their torch yet they will burn I nice hole in your winter gear.I just got an awsome set of carharts for cold weather. And when I bent some metal I forgot to set the torch down to pick up a hammer and it tipped and burnt a real nice hole right trhrough all layers of the new bibs.Even left a little black mark on my bare knee.My wife not only supports my bowbuying, welding she has already bought me a patch so she can sew the hole shut as I am a little ashamed of trashing the carharts. Reply:Neat pictures, but I'm curious about something. Each picture has (WinCE) as part of it's name. Are you using a pocketpc or something like that to take the photos?Craftsman 230a Buzz-box,  Lincoln 140T & 180T, Century K2789, PUROX W202 O/A14" cheapo chop saw that cuts straight and square!A toolbox of the cheapest Chinese tools money can buy"Real" tools all old reliable Husky/Craftsman/Proto stuff
Reply:I am far behind on both the use of the computer and cameras.I went from the cheap drop off kind to a much better camera with a micro chip.I just now learned how to take a picture and transfer it to my computer so I can upload and add to posts. The reason it says wince is when you upload a picture mine always are to big.So when I rezize on my computer the word wince comes up.Some forums allow a bigger upload size.I am delighted to do it myself and can not believe how easy it is.My sone is a big time computer programmer who flies all over the US to work on networking. But when he comes by it took me forever to get him to help me download a picture. He is really so sick of doing his job all day he hates it when he has to do this for others. But the bigger reason is he has discovered girls and thats why he is tied up.He has worked in networking for some big companies and has many to support. He gets so many calls from some to come fix there computer he tells the people they have an I D Ten T Problem. When you right this down in letters and numbers it spells  IDIOT.My next thing is I want to set up my own web and can not find a format to do it.He has had his own web for many years ald the little S@$& tells me he does not know how.LOL
Reply:Maybe I'll have to take some pic's of my stainless steel smoker I made in the navy!
Reply:I would love to see your pict. The biggest problem is finding doors for this thing.I checked online at the local steel company where I have been getting my mild steel. They wanted $480 for a 16ga 4x8 sheet.Does that sound right?.I am not set up to weld stainless I just have a stick welder so I have to do much thinking about how to get some doors on this.I came close to buying a millermatic 250 with tank for 1250.It was on e bay and I could have picked it up as it was just 80 miles south of me.I was going to bid 1300 and it sold for 1275 with just two bids. But I never bid as I can not drive due to siezures to pick it up.I see some online sellers are selling 210 millermatics for under 1300 with no shipping charges. If I get one I want no restrictions at 3/8 thick. And also that machine is the one I welded on for years before I had to retire due to the siezures.Gary
Reply:welditnow - that is correct, SS is expensive! I use to make catch cans out of it when it was cheaper, now I either use aluminum or a mild steel shell and a SS top and bottom. If you need help with a web site, let me know, I'd be glad to get you up and running.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:I was concerned about the stainless being to thin and thus limiting my BBqing and only use it for smoking sausage etc.But today I found a very large round cylander with much thicker walls.I will post a picture after I pick it up in morning.
