hi,all the owner told me is that its a 3-phase miller machine, in working condition that he wants to get rid of and will flip for next to nothing. is anyone able to identify it from the picture and is it worth my time to drive over and pick it up? Reply:Looks like a CP mig.  Should say Constant Potential Arc Welding Power Source on the label if it's from the CP family.   The power info label should say it's output voltage range and duty cycle, as well as input voltages it can run on.  That's just my guess.  Alot of Miller shop machines looked similar to that in that era (1980's).MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:I thought that looked familiar.  I used to weld with the CP250TS machines and even owned one for a short time.  They weld very nice and have plenty of duty cycle, 100% @ rated output.  We used ours with Cobramatic push-pull feeders and MK pulsers to do aluminum production welding.  Later we upgraded to Millermatic 350P's with Pythons.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:Wellllllllllllllll, thanks to Scot Henion there appears to be a viable way to convert these units from three phase to single phase operation and still wind up with a 220amp machine (not sure how he determined that figure). You may have read where I recently acquired 4 of these units rebadged as Aircos when I picked up a Millermatic 30A wire feeder http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=40868 (MM 30A wire feeder not spool gun).  A friend of mine at work (Dan) and I figured there had to be a way make a three-to-single phase conversion so we set about to find out on one of them this past weekend with limited success before we ran out of time yesterday.  Determined to dig into it further, Dan found the above information posted by Scot Henion however, we haven't had an opportunity to confirm the total conversion method but we were basically on the same track as Scot's instructions in our efforts. We plan to apply Scot's procedures and pick up where we left off as soon as possible which may have to wait for a couple weeks.  I'll keep you posted.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Trust me Steve, I understand what you're saying. If you recall, I acquired the four units when I bought the three wire feeders, two suitcase feeders, two gas flow meters and assorted work clamps and cables and two 15' MIG guns.  The price was right and I bought them off eBay for the MM30A wire feeder and the suitcase units and gave one set up to an acquaintance from work that drove to San Antonio with Brink M.E. and me to pick them up.  He has three phase power available to run it.I gave another to Dan from work who has a three phase generator but would rather not have to run the generator just to do a little MIG welding and so we set out to see what could be done as we both like to tinker and I owe him 'a few'.  Plans are to follow through on one of the other units to see if in fact it's viable.  However, under normal circumstances I likely wouldn't invest the time and money for a conversion although it could easily be done in an afternoon and we estimate would cost under $150 in materials for the reasons you stated.  As for selling the others, these older used three phase units sit in the ads forever around here but the jury is still out on that option. But you're right, I've got enough other projects to keep me busy (wait until you see my suitcase project ) so you won't be seeing a rash of converted CP-250 TS up for sale on eBay or the list.  As for that Airco MIGet, it's close to being introduced to the 'freshened up' Millermatic 30A wire feeder and pressed into service.  If you missed it, the Bobcat is running good and just waiting for a new running gear.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
