I'm building a welding cart and I'm wondering what do yall think. Should i add some braces any where to make it stronger . Please comment like to hear some positive feeds and idea.
Reply:Yes, you should plate the sides with at least a 4" -6" triangle gusset. The first time you set an Australian size beer on top of that PowrMatic, it will bend!!!I'd go with a 6"x6"x 1/8" for each side. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:General advice: Clean down to bare metal before welding. This includes paint, oil, millscale, etc. Your shot at a much better quality weld will be greatly increased.
Reply:or you could just add 2 more legs in front...and wheels...

Reply:what about 2 leg mid way or about 4-6" from the other legs.
Reply:didnt add much room when it came down to the with http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...t/PICT0050.jpg
Reply:If the weld joints at the bottom of your uprights are adequate, you could simply add a cross brace on each side. See picture. Attached Images
Reply:i think its a good weld i sat on it it didnt brake i weigh 170 lbs lol its a smooth weld and by the looks of it it got a good penetration.
Reply:Wheels would probably make it easier to move. LOL...I know, I know... You already thought of that.Couldn't help it.If you don't use your head you may as well have been born with two backends. That ain't exactly how Papa used to say it.*Linc'n WeldanPower 200 with a Wis. 2 cyl. w/handcrank*Linc'n AC225 *Linc'n ProMig 180*tiny porta torch...

Reply:Using post #8 idea, you could also do the same on the bottom by adding another brace or gusset going the other direction to the back of the cart. Alternatively place another upright where the back of the welder is, that would also add considerable strength.Miller Auto Invision 456 + S-62 wire feederC6240B1 Gap bed lathe16 ft3 air compressor16 speed pedestal drillHafco BS-912 Bandsaw

Reply:Nice band saw cart. Is the "hitch mount" thingie on the side for an outfeed repetitive cut stop or for a stock support outfeed roller (or both)? I've been contemplating making a fold up outfeed side table with an adjustable repetetive stop for my band saw cart for some time now. A repetitive stop makes repeat cuts a lot more accurate.
Reply:Very nice work indeed. Your carts show thoughtful design.I also like the pull handle design that is consistently repeated on your carts.
Reply:Two quick tips:-add swivel casters to the front to make it easy to maneuver in the shop.-add 2 hooks to store your leads on.ScottFab Manager http://www.welders360.com/New guy.
Reply:Another idea he can use for the cart is what I built for my welders. Similar, except I used angled braces on the uprights. Although at this point, I wouldn't tear it apart. It looks very stable now. Reply:That isn't the finished shot. I put a couple brackets for bottles & painted it. I did cap the open tubes, ground the welds smooth & bolted the welders to the top. I actually made it tall enough to stuff a tombstone under it, then all the electric welders would be in one place.MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build
Reply:I prefer the manly man rugged look Open tubing ends (nice mud dauber condos)No paint (makes the welder look purtier)Slag still on the welds (indicates that your time is valuable, and better spent doing other things)Slightly out of square (this is a good sign, means someone had a rough night, can't trust a dood who doesn't )Mis matched wheels (nobody's perfect, and why should you expect me to be) Attached Images"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Awwww Samm, I work teaching classes for 6 weeks, then I'm off for 6 weeks. Gotta have something to do with my down time.So I make sure it's square, try to get the wheels on straight (didn't happen this time, too much camber), cap the ends, flap disc the welds, paint it up then bolt the welders down. I had the time, tried to make it right the first time, rather than "good 'nuff" as we used to do on the farm. Figured it kept me off the internet surfin porn sites, so why not. Learned more about that Lincoln welder I bought for $75 too.MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build |
