i picked up a new lath and a air operated 8ton hydrolic ram yesterday.i havent used a lath in about 25-28 years now but should be able to figure it out without too many lost limbs. well i hope so any way. i intend to use the ram to make several tools for the shop, just pull the pin and move the ram between a log spliter, a chery picker type lift or 2, a press, and a bender. will take me a wile to get them all made but i will get there eventualy.besides a few wood projects for the lath i am planing on making my own dies for the bender with it. i figure if i make the 1/2 circle for the bender and then encase the wood in a steel outer shell it should hold up to alow me to bend tube or pipe as needed. again if i can figure out the lath that it.its prity much what you would expect from HF  but with a lil work it should be good enough to get the job done. it was $139 but i used an old ad and they let me have it for $86, i figure it actualy werth about that .LOL it also has a 6" sanding wheel on the end as well but i may be reworking that to turn it into a larger one, eather 10"or 12" just need to make a few modifications and remounf the table for it a bit diferent and enlarge it a bit as well.any how just thought i would share my new toys, although the builds will be more fun so i'll post them seperate as i get the steel and get started. right now i'm making a lift for my pull behind wagon out of scraps so i can go pick up a log. i'll post pic's when its done also. Reply:i played with it a lil bit last night and it seems like it should be ok after a few modifications. i dont realy have the space to mount it to anything so i want it to stay mobile. i'm going to have to make a sub-frame for it to keep it from bending in the center when you tighten it up. the bottom is just sheet metal so it bows realy easy. i figure adding a good solid sub-frame will alow me to leave it not atached to any thing and still be able to tighten it up.i'm guessing your wife got the stand with hers so its probly keeping the base from bowing on her. i just dont have the shops set up for mounting it yet, i will eventualy but for now a sub-frame is the best option. after that i'm going to look at increasing the sanding disk size.although i think i better take a trip to the library and look into a book on lathes first, befor i break me or it. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.
