Reply:I aim around 1/8 out from the cup. But... I'm no expert. If the tungsten is too far in the arc will have too far to travel and cause wander, which makes a nice weld even harder.
Reply:Leave about 1/8 to 1/4 in. sticking out of the collet (not more than the diameter of the cup).John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Depends on what your doing.  About 1/8" is good for flat position, but for a t type joint, you will want it out further (gives you clearance for the cup).  If its real tight, you may need it sticking out even further.  I believe you can have it pretty far out, maybe even a 1/2" or so if it calls for it.  A gas diffuser is helpful if that much is needed for a succesful weld.Various GrindersVictor Journeyman torch200cf Acet. 250cf oxygenLincoln 175 plus/alpha2 gunLincoln v205t tigLincoln 350mpEsab 650 plasmaWhen you can get up in the morning, Its a good day.Live each day like its your last.
Reply:thanks guys another question I had was what is the differance or advantages over a gas lens to a regular collet body. The welder came with many different consumables. I have played with tig machines in the past but never enough to really get this involved. Majority of my work is going to be 1/8 steel or less and not really sure on stainless or aluminum depends what comes along. I have had to turn down a number of jobs and i am tired of doing that.millermatic 210syncrowave 180 SDhypertherm 380craftsman buzzboxclarke drill press/bandsaw
Reply:I leave mine out about this far...No matter what I'm doing.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
