been doing some work with mig lately. I have a Lincoln T-170 running .030 solid wire. Every time i set the torch down, the trigger hits something and spits out wire.... I'm beginning to think i might want to wire the on/off trigger control to an on/off foot pedal (like tig pedals, but just simple on/off)i should just bite the bullet and make some kind of a torch holder.anyway, just wanna complain a bit.
Reply:Hey Oxy Moron, I had the same problem with my Lincoln SP-175.I believe that there were earlier posts dealing with this.In my case, I opened up the gun and stiffened the compression spring; I stretched it then put it back in. It then took more force to trigger the gun on - that helped a lot. Also, I usually weld on folding wooden work tables that have 3/4 inch diameter holes in the surface. The gun nozzle fits in there nicely to hold the torch while I do fit-up or grinding.Rick V 1 Airco Heliwelder 3A/DDR3 CTC 70/90 amp Stick/Tig Inverters in Parallel1 Lincoln MIG PAK 151 Oxy-Acet

Reply:Those magnetic gun holders are nice in the shop but out in the field (or even out in the driveway), they're useless. Get used to paying attention to where/how you put down and grab up the torch and you'll be just fine. Reply:I just tacked a rolled ring, out of 1/4 round rod, to each side of the table. Stick the torch in it. Works easy, and holds the torch loose enough that it can move if you bump into it. Reply:no accessories to holster the mig gun to my belt? thanks for the stiffer spring idea, Rick. I'll do a search and look into it.

Reply:Done that before, more than once. Lay the lead down, go for break and come back 20+ minutes later (hey, I work for the gov't) to find most of a roll of wire laying all neatly coiled up on the floor. Unless it happened to ground out and then you've got either a fire, burnt up gear or a piece of modern art. Worst ever happened was the wire coiled up over the power lead, grounded out and burnt thru, at least it stopped the feeding......Mike
