Reply:Welcome to Weldingweb new_welder! As Zap stated, in a 'round about way, your pics are very blurry and it's tough to see. However blurry, your one bead looks cold and very concave...and messy. When welding, remember that clean metal is mean metal. Grind it down, wipe it down, wire brush it and then wipe it down again. After that, practice making beads almost like your trying to draw a long line with a crayon very slowly. Practice this in cirlces, Z pattern and U pattern. Give it a shot and post back with some good pics. Thanks for sharing.John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:You actually got a couple of short sections that look OK, maybe 1/2" long, so I'm guessing your weld settings may be close to OK.The rest is pretty messy, some weld on one leg, none on the other.Don't know what you did to create this but here are some guesses.1. If something is causing the wire feed to hang up momentarily, (like a dirty or kinked liner, spatter covered worn out contact tip, or loose drive wheels), the arc length will become excessive as the wire burns back toward the contact tip, and this lack of wire feed and long arc will give an erratic weld.2. Moving the gun at an erratic speed, or making large changes in tip to work distance, could cause this also.
