Becoming a welder

This may seem like a retarded question but I'm really wonderingso far all I've done is take a basic welding course in an adult education class. This included stick welding, oxy/act cutting and a tiny bit of brazing. In the fall I'll be taking a mig/tig course at the same placewhere do i go from here?
Reply:The only thing I can think of is more questions.  Can you weld out of position?  Can you pass x-ray or bend test in 3g & 4g?  What aspect of welding do you want to get into? Finding work right now is a little tough so you got to make sure your welding kung fu is strong.

Reply:are you set up to travel yet i suggest you get a machine that you will use to travel with and practice using it and getting ready for a bend or xray test that way you will be ready to go if you are not going to use your own machine to travel then practice whenever you can and be ready to gosa200 mo heat mo rod mo money
Reply:Still not sure what type of welding your looking to do.  Do you mean pipe/oil field or plate/structual welding? Do you want your own rig?  You better off getting a job in a shop first to get some time under your belt and get your skills down solid.  If your looking to do plate work then SMAW and FCAW would be the best to master and you would not need to have your own rig.  In plate work there can be plenty of travel just depends what part you get involved in.  If you looking to get into pipe then SMAW and GTAW are best to master and having your own rig would be best.  You would definitly have travel time involved, so it just depends on where you want to go.  Honestly you are probably a year or two away from your goal so just keep practicing.
