i remember yall telling me that i need to prep better. So i started using a non chloride electric motor/ contact cleaner spray to remove the oils. I'll spray the piss of that little wiper on my wire feed and i noticed a big difference. Less splatter and it seems to run smoother welds with less flux build up. Don't have pix right now but ill get some.to post.
Reply:be careful removing the oil/lubricant on wire. It was put there for a reason.Conversely, don't use the stupid felt oil impregnated pads either. It's overkill, and messes up the liner with gook."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:well i use flux core and it dont feel oily but i saw or heard of that you can use rubbing alcohol on that felt to remove moister and surface rust before it hits the rollers and liner . so question am i doing wrong if so tell me so i can fix my error.
Reply:Ive never bothered with any of those wire wipes for MIG, never had an issue. If your noticing a big difference from using a wiper you need to switch wire or keep your old stuff clean.Have we all gone mad?
Reply:im saturating the the felt with contact cleaner ( which is alcohol )to remove moisture off the wire and wipe it clean. at the same time

Reply:i use the hobart E71-T11 .035 open car port with equipment covers and plastic covers. and the only reason i the alcohol was i think i saw it on a youtube welding video i think it was by miller cant remember well. but never had any surface rust or dirty wire before the equipment is always dry and clean. but when i saw the video it talked about doing that so i tried it. the thing that i noticed was less splater and flux buid upon the weld.other than that it welds great before and welds great now.
Reply:I really don't feel you need to go those lengths. I have wire sitting the machine for long periods, in a humid envrionment (Oklahoma), and have never experienced surface rust.I do occasionally get a lot of crud in the liner after a few rolls of wire, and I just blow the liner out with compressed air."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:kool that is good to know i live in the south texas area a wee bit away from the coast. wire dont last but 4-5 mo. in my machine never seen it get rusty . but have been curious about moister build up on wire and its affects on or when welding. |
