Started today by finishing the new welder cart for the Miller 456p and Bernard water cooler.The old cart was actually a converted tool cart and really unsafe to move around.Almost tipped over the other day    continued Attached ImagesDarwinian evolution used to fix stupid. Reply:The next job is kind of boring(unless the torch starts sounding like a chinese new years celebration) and take`s most of the day to finish. (6 of them to do.)  We start with these:   Fire-up the torch and start to heat the block for about ohh ,say, 40 minutes     Once the block reaches approx. 650*, shut off the torch, run to the freezer and grab a stub shaft,run back to the block and put the shaft in straight.(A coworker found this out the hard way,took most of the 300 ton press to pop it back out!) Once it hits bottom, spin the shaft until it starts to sieze up,then let it sit for an hour or so before moving it off the table.   Small vid of the heating phase.(2 minutes long)   Small vid of spinning the shaft.(23 seonds long)   Video of the torch popping(caused by touching the melting brick in the hole)WARNING!!! ONE BAD 5 LETTER WORD AT THE VERY END!!!Darwinian evolution used to fix stupid. Reply:40 mins...You need a bigger torch.. I go up to .015 diffrence at times but never had top freeze anything before hand unless the mating part was not going to be heated....But thats just me.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:Cart looks great.  Huge improvement.And me too . . . what the heck is that huge block of metal with the metal sticking out of it for?  I'm assuming from the way it's made the load would be in shear (like something hanging on it -- a bearing with a huge roller -- one of those supporting each end?) but then it only has four tiny bolt holes?  That will keep me guessing.

I finally got the owner to order the material for a new table. 60"x120"x2" thick surface ground top,3"x1/4" square tubing for legs and 10" channel for full length stiffeners!As for the heating and freezing,thats the way they want it done :shrug:Elvergon:  No,they do not get welded afterwards.They are for large grain dryer roller bases. Reply:Yup, that is the LARGE size of whatever it is. Must be some nuclear age sized grain.  Interesting stuff.  I could imagine why they'd want the bolts to be less resistant than the shaft (likely by factors of tens to hundreds), but then again I'm not an engineer so . . .    One thing is very likely . . . that shaft will never break.Thanks again for posting this stuff.I've got to start posting some pics but . . . the stuff I'm working on and my welds are nothing to write home about just yet.
