mig or stick for a trailer?

i need to weld a crack on a flatbed trailer(for a big rig) and im wondering if its ok to use mig? i feel a lot more confident with mig then stick. My plan was to grind out the crack a bit, fill it in, then plate over it. So would mig be alright?

Reply:I'd say there's no where near enough info given to make many suggestions at all. What size mig? What sort of skill level do you have to be considering making major structural repairs of this sort on a vehicle? We are not talking about some small ATV trailer but one that could carry loads that weigh in excess of 30 ton's. Do you have any clue what the frame is made of, heat treated steel. psi rating on the frame, correct weld perameters and so on?Not to bust on you, but a question this basic kind of makes me think that if you have to ask, then it's probably not a job for you to be doing yourself.
