I bought the rebuild kits, after opening the package it has a diaphragm and some seals for the orifice tube,My question is how do you remove the nut on the back side of the diaphragm without damaging the brass part that it's attached to?These are Victor regulators. The parts are genuine Victor.John

Reply:I have the regulator apart, what I'm trying to find out is there a way to remove the nut on the stud that fits through the diaphragm, trying to figure a way to hold the stud and not damage it.The end of the stud is flat and very thin and smooth, no way to grip it.John
Reply:Most people are shocked at the number of special tools needed to repair torches and regulators. I have over $100,000 worth of specaility tools. The diaphragm assemble can be taken apart two ways. 1- The diaphragm nut is not as tight as you think it would be. Simply put the brass support in a vise on an angle biting just the edges. If you damage the old diaphragm it OK because you are going to be replacing it.2- Get a inexpensive socket the same size as the brass diaphragm support piece. Grind the edge on the socket down to remove the round edge. Put the socket in a vise drop the diaphragm assemble in and remove the nut. Do not over tighten when installing the new rubber. (I have about 7 socket for this purpose)Hope this helps.JimOAdoctorwww.regulatortorchrepair.com |
