Howdy chaps. Is there, one out there that has a plans for a over the top spit roast cooker. I've scored a brand new 44 gallon drum and want to put to good use. Now more flash the better, I'm a show off. I own a 87 troopie (rust is slowly owning it )I ride a quadand I love sticking metal together. And I live in OZ... (Geelong)
Reply:I don't have any plans..But for a motor that turns slow..Get one out of an old refridgerator with an ice maker in it..The motor that flips the tray over to let the ice out will work great!Slowwwwww turning and small to boot!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:G'day Yogie,What sort of slow cooker do you want to build gas or wood fired?I have made a lot from 44's but they where LPG fired, I have also made some smokers from 44's as well, I have at the moment two stainless steel kegs to make into BBQ's.I have a few photo's of them if they help drop me a line and I will be happy to send them to you.Just a side note when cutting old drums and alike be extremely careful they can explode, even if they have been empty for years, But in your case I see you say it's a new one. Just thought I should mention it anyway.SimonLabel EverythingMetal Fabrication - Welding Repairs - Wrought Iron - Sign Writing - Custom Decals.

Reply:g'day yogie , another australian . mate we have one that we made from a 44 with a old motor turning the roaster , just geared it down to make it turn slow then have a variable switch to make it slower again , we just cut the drum in half with a oxy (it was a fruit juice drum so no risk of explosion )be careful cutting drums ay . ill try get soem pictures if you want samaustralian welding kid - i can fix it for ya sure its gonna cost
Reply:Yogie I have finally found some photo's of some of the BBQ's I have made. This one has 4 separate burners the long one at the back is if it to me used as a slow cooker I just took the front burners out.I had an old primus camp oven that I robbed the internals from and fitted them in the keg, I worked very well but the plate was small.I have used a generator off an old tractor to power the rotisserie just hook it to 12v and you have a slow turning high toque electric motorSimonLabel EverythingMetal Fabrication - Welding Repairs - Wrought Iron - Sign Writing - Custom Decals.
