I have been searching for the last 3 hrs and have yet to find out how to build a set of reels. I have found a bunch of pictures and know how to isolate the stinger, but how should I build the spool shaft? Use bearings of some types? I attached a picture of some reels, does anyone know how the shaft and bearings are designed on them? Attached Images
Reply:You might get away without using any bearings. It's not like these are high speed, or carry a lot of load. I might be tempted to just use round stock for the shaft, just drill a hole in the center of your end plates, and call it done. The reel will run steel-on-steel and may wear a little, but it'll take years to wear out. If I didn't have the proper drill bit, I'd probably drill it a little undersized, then use a die grinder to open the hole so it fits well to the shaft. Not too sloppy, not too tight.Seeing as how those are cantilevered out, you may want a fairly big diameter shaft. In that case I'd probably use pipe instead of solid and use a hole saw instead of the drill. You might even torch cut the hole and clean it up with the die grinder.Dynasty200DX w/coolmate1MM210MM VintageESAB miniarc161ltsLincoln AC225Victor O/A, Smith AW1ACutmaster 81IR 2475N7.5FPRage3Jancy USA1019" SBAEAD-200LE |
