rework weld

As part of a job this weekend (rail equipment repair) I had to cut out a weld that failed inspection (probably would have been fine, but you don't take chances) and reweld.The first shot shows a weld similar to the one that was cut out (sorry not real clear pic) that was acceptable. The job was done originally with Jet rod. 1" plate sandwiched with 5/8" plate (forming a cross shape) to allow clearance for bolt heads with a frame, welded all four edges with 5/8" fillets. The jet rod didn't lay in well and one of the welds was walked over slag-- less than superior material surface was the existing condition, and '24 isn't real tolerant of that at the start.Second shot shows the repair I did. Root two passes 1/8 '10, dressed, and magnafluxed, covered with 6 passes of 7018, visual and magnafluxed between layers. Not pretty, but cleaner than the '24 layed in. Attached Images
