Customer gate that I've been working on. Been busy with my day job and working on this one. Finally installed it this last weekend. Will try and get an installed pic tomorrow.Pretty involved but they (customer) really like it. I made all of the baskets and bands on the Shop Outfitters system, the only "readily" made pieces are the collars on the lower pickets, and the rings. My wife likes it so much she wants one too.. Reply:Nice stuff! Do you think it's cheaper to make the baskets then to buy them? "Every choice you make will effect at least one other person"
Reply:KevDSuper job, looks really goodIs the frame tube or solid? -- How did you bend it?
Reply:Thanks Guys.... Flywheel- I have more time in it than I'm being paid for  Actually, I have about 30 hours in it, but some of that come from my lack of experience. I've since produced a few more, and am getting much more efficient  Woodironman- No- It is MUCH cheaper to buy them already made, by the time you figure time and materials. I just wanted to try it myself. The last two projects after this one were made using baskets from China- you can't beat the prices on stuff from King Metals.... The baskets that the Shop Outfitters system can make are a tighter overall diameter than you can buy. For this particular project, it worked out well. I have to go over and install the lockset today so I will get more pics of the installed gate (now white).KevMiller 210 and 140 MigsBernard Q-Torches on bothMiller Syncrowave 200Spoolmate 3035 for sale, excellent condtion- PM for detailsThermal Dynamics 38XLShop OutFitters 20/20 Bending SystemLots of other cheap and not so cheap tools Still have LOTS to learn, but got some nice stuff to learn on!

Reply:When are you making me one??Got a bunch of bozo's floating around here lately...  ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Really nice gate.  Very clean.  I like the way you grinded the welds.Skill in making that stuff will come in handy.  Unless you stock that stuff from King, then there will be a waiting time for delivery--So making you own stuff for small jobs or one time jobs is more economical than it might appear.  I twist my own bars and make my own lambs tongues. How consistent are your baskets?  How did you come up with the design?
Reply:Thanks Tap - And thanks for the advice earlier King's Los Angeles office is only a 40 minute drive for me, but I still enjoy making my own baskets, they are different than what I've seen them carry and you get the satisfaction of creating all your own parts. The design was something I came up with in my head and started playing around with and then I translated the idea in my head into a drawing on the PC using Ornamental Design Pro software. FYI, the software is really nice, but certainly has some major limitations. I do alot of computers stuff anyway, so I am learning my way around it.  As for the consistency of the baskets (some of you may remember my problems earlier of getting consistent results), I have had the best luck using 1/4 HR square solid. I do have an occasional basket that will unwrap funny and goes to the scrap box. All in all though, once it is all welded together and is part of a larger work of art, you really don't seem to notice any inconsistency as they blend together. My daughter still has my card from the camera so I'll post pics tomorrow.KevLast edited by Dkevdog; 07-06-2007 at 02:16 AM.Miller 210 and 140 MigsBernard Q-Torches on bothMiller Syncrowave 200Spoolmate 3035 for sale, excellent condtion- PM for detailsThermal Dynamics 38XLShop OutFitters 20/20 Bending SystemLots of other cheap and not so cheap tools Still have LOTS to learn, but got some nice stuff to learn on!
