The Float's Not Floatin'...

Mrs zap came home a little while ago and said.."The Falcon is running like crap!"...So I said "I'll have a look at it"..Yeah...running really bad..Felt like the choke was shut or something...Took off the air cleaner and there was gas bubbling out the vent on the top of the carb.. I know what that means...The float is full of gas.. Here's what we do..First drill a hole in the bottom to get the gas out and provide the way to find the leak...Upon taking it to the air compressor and filling it up with compressed air we see the seam is very porous..So sealing that is no problem..We go into Mrs zaps stained glass room and spy the welder of choice for this job...And now the seam is resealed..But what to do about the hole?? Next post.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:Ok now about that hole we drilled...We all know you cant seal a hole like that with just solder..It stays as a "blowhole" just like welding a piece of tubing shut.. So heres the answer..Mrs zaps stained glass copper foil!Very simply stick it over the hole..(the back side has adheasive on it..)Now seal with solder!..Reassemble carb..And now (you can't hear it..but I can)..Purrs like a kitten...Now my fingers smell like gas.. Reply:Throw it in  a bucket of HOT water to see if it still leaks.  (you have to hold it under water)   done many.David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:What year is the Falcon? Can we get some "full-body" shots of it too. I agree the '07 Lincoln Navigator isn't the way to go, a '63 Thunderbird however, that's riding in style, I also just happen to have one that needs a new home.Nice fix, but remember this is weldingweb not solderweb

Reply:Nice ride Zap! My folks had an early 60's Falcon when they first got married. In response to your wife not wanting to drive some newer wheels, does she have any sisters available?, I have available for trade, 1 wife with 1 high monthly payment.

Reply:I had a 66' Ford Falcon Futura. What a great car. It's got acres of room to work under the hood. I got mine from my Aunt Aggie back in the 70's for $100.00. She only used it to crash wakes, she was a little strange that way. It was black with a red interior and had mice living under the grill in front of the windshield.          Once I took it to the drive through zoo at Great Adventure and every baboon in the park (at least 20) came over and sat on it at once. It sunk six inches and the hood folded in the middle. Then they chewed up all my windsheild wipers and the rubber from my surfboard rack. Then they ****ed all over it. One baby baboon reached in the one inch crack my friend Mike left the window open and had a ten minute tug of war with my him for possesion of his head. I hit the breaks to get the fat baboon that creased the center of my hood off and nearly ripped the baby outta Mikes hair along with a chunk of his scalp.   I finally sold it to get a van figuring I'd get more chicks but I miss it. That was Henry Ford's dream of cheap dependable transportation fulfilled The one thing I remember about that engine was that it would appear to be burning oil like the engine rings were gone but in reality the valve seals dry rot every ten years or so and let oil through. They really aren't that hard to replace either. Had that problem yet Zap?
