Pretty much as the title says, I'm looking for good books or websites and general information about starting a welding-related business.  Right now I do mixed side work word-of-mouth in addition to my regular job as a maintenance supervisor at a ski hill.I'm more interested in business practices and maybe eventually starting an LLC than purely technical information...I've got background in auto repair, been welding and sandblasting since I was 7 years old (I'm 25 now) and have recently gotten myself a bridgeport to do some machining and precision drilling work, learning all the while.  Most of the side work I'm currently doing is auto/mc/light truck repair, but I enjoy welding and doing machining operations and have done quite a few jobs from repairing broken plant holders on up to putting the teeth back on giant excavators.I figure I should start now because the word of mouth promotion has gotten me more work and eventually I'm sure the governments going to want their cut....I'd rather be proactive now to avoid getting a scary letter from the IRS.

Reply:Ditto Broccoli1 , if there are few transactions to keep track of, the cost is very low.Matt
Reply:Just want to clarify my statement You'll do your own accounting/book keeping but the Accountant can help with which direction to set up your Business: Sole Proprietor, LLC, S-Corp, C-corpand if you feel comfortable with doing your Taxes, you can certainly do them yourself, but a good tax dood will know where and what deductions you can take and should take.I have enough crap with my business I don't want to deal with Taxes- it is worth it for me to make an appointment and drop off the paperwork.Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
