Here is a tool i whipped up one morning to make life a little easier while working with chain conveyors at work. To move waste around the mill they use giant chain conveyors everywhere, also they use chain to move boards and logs from one machine to another. And i have the lucky job many times to shorten or replace broken links on the chain. I made this little tool so it can hold the end of the pin while i heat and beat the other side of the pin to flare it out, to stop it from coming out, just the way its done, unless you have a welding cable out. This tool may also work to push the pin out too.Last edited by MicroZone; 06-29-2007 at 01:16 PM.
Reply:Hey Doug, thats a cool idea. I never actually thought of making something like that and now maybe I will. I also work at a sawmill but on the eastcoast. I work in the boiler plant as an operator. We have a lot of chains in the sawmill and two in the boiler plant so I know what you are showing and what it is used for. We sometimes in a hurry weld in the pins, Makes for a little more work when removing links but a lot quicker when installing. Here is a link to one of my posts where such a time happen. We start peining the pins but moved to welding when time became a factor. Thanks for the idea and have fun. http://www.weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=11314Miller DVI2Lincoln Precision Tig 225Thermodynamics Cutmaster 38Everything else needed.

Reply:Right on. I like to rig up things to help make things easier. When the guys saw me making this they thought it wouldnt work and was wasting my time. The other welder on my shift liked it though. The way i look at it is that if you wanted someones opinion you would ask, and if nobody ever tried something new, we wouldnt have the things we do today. Anyhow thanks!
